There is already a very recent example of an extensive administrative state being dismantled -- see Vladislav Zubok's book Collapse: The Fall of the Soviet Union. The events of Gorbachev's reign track very closely to what is happening now. Spoilers: It did not end well.

There is a better permanent way to purchase politicians: A publicly funded voucher system. Especially if the money must be given to populist lobbying organizations. You need your own bureaucracy to counteract corporate/government bureaucracy and control, report on politicians. A better way of funding would be to do publicly funded donation matching, or something similar as to prevent socialists from abusing the system. In either case the proposed public funding system will have to be game tested.

I like Samo, this take how populism can be used against the Republican party is a little over-simplified. It really depends on where seats are located how they can be challenged. If you notice how leadership roles are selected in both houses the candidates are from states or districts that can't realistically be challenged by the opposition party

I think the administrative state beats itself and then populism takes over in its failure. No governmental change is truly lasting

I don't see thinking re how the bottom 89.5 percent improves its income and/or wealth after a 40-ish year hiatus... or how the embryonic Republican fascist fascination will fare. Mention of AOC makes sense as a possible leader.

A point I'd make in response to your mention of our society having more than any civilization, and it still not being enough. Your boy hoe_math explains it very well. This won't change until we return to a monogamous society. Women have sex with the top 20% and ignore the bottom 80% of men. Because they get stuck on their highest setting, they don't understand their true position in social hierarchy therefore we have a cascade of destructive downstream events that is far too involved to mention here. So, until the bottom 80% have a realistic idea of their rank in the social hierarchy, this situation will continue. Then in regard to secular thinkers believing in mysticism, we have the same thing today with many physicists' approach to mathematics in physics. It is an article of mystical faith to believe in the idea of 10 dimensions that you devote your life to it as a studious monk, even though there is absolutely no evidence to support it. That's just string theory. Hugh Everett developed what essentially became the multiverse theory of quantum mechanics. There is zero proof of a multiverse, yet our modern day monasteries have people who are believers, evangelists and are paid to study this mysticism without a shred of evidence or physical manifestation in the history of lived experience. We have a gigantic pantheon today with plenty of other "serious" scientific theories with hordes of devotees who have no hard evidence to support them. The math has become much more complex, but the ancient Pythagorean impulse behind it is exactly the same.

57:26 - Ioan Couliano's 'Eros and Magic in he Renaissance' hit a lot of interesting vectors as far as how the Enlightenment and English Protestanism wrang out the mystical and pantheistic (no great chain of being) but he also focused a bit on Giordano Bruno's 'On Bonds' which was bridging magic into the psychological and into realpolitik.

Lost on a lot of people is that the fertility rate has been declining since the late 1700s. Seven children was the norm in the USA in 1800 and has been falling continuously since, ignoring the small baby boom. It's trending to zero by 2050. It has nothing do with the costs of raising children or recently created external stressors. Children aren't needed to work on the farm (for survival) and cultural factors make children undesirable. It's a global phenomenon. Mostly modernization/technology negates fertility drivers.

Burja gets at the reality in observing how the transition from Biden to Harris was astroturfed. And, yes, once the Left elite decide on a strategy they will unleash their “dogs of war.” None of it is organic, it is all contrived. There is not a single mastermind, more if a hive mind, but what we see is organized and funded. The central players in government and oligarch-level business and NGOs, is evaluating what to expect from Trump, will then decide what to do about him.
