But don’t Apple measure the battery life for web browsing, so the battery life looks better? But very good comparison video of your experiences. Thanks for sharing.

“I read all the reviews” (Gets the 14-inch max, and then gets surprised by overheating) Brother, most review I saw warned against getting the 14-inch for that exact reason. It's a pretty well known fact. In any case, I'm enjoying the 16- inch Max a lot. I hope you enjoy the M4 pro, I hear it's also a great machine.
@MarvoloRiddle4 сағат бұрын
Doesn’t matter. Why is Apple selling it why do you have to rely on an external review to see there is a serious flaw? Why doesn’t Apple state that on their website or improve the cooling solution? The lengths you fanboys go to defend this shit

To be honest, I think that's why 40c GPU version of 14 inch M4 Max requires cutomization. and I do believe Apple lists 36GB RAM 32c GPU version as standard model for the reason, because that could be the sweet spot for 14 inch model.

I have the M3 Max 14”. I’m super glad i went with the binned version with 30 core and not 40 core. That thing is LOUD. Everybody who owns one advised me to not get it or get the 16inch (which most of them did) but i didn’t want to get a bigger laptop because I hated my 15” M2 Air in those scenarios where it was too big to fit. The M3 Max 14-30 is perfect for me. I edit all day every day on Final Cut.

I really think you should check out fcp11, its known to be way snappier than resolve , especially on its own companies mac platform. You could keep resolve for color grading, and use fcp for editing.

I'm on my 3rd M series MBP. 1st was the M1 Max 16 in a 10/24/32 configuration. 2nd was a M3 Pro 14 with the 12/18/18 configuration and my current is the M4 Pro 16 in a 14/20/24 configuration. Favorite is the M4 Pro. I think it’s snappier than the predecessors. I discovered that the Max was overkill for the video/photo editing I do. Enjoyed the 14" and its portability, but at the end of the day I prefer the larger for the thermals/screen size/slightly better sound. I've subscribed and look forward to your M4 Pro review. Cheers!

Thats perfect and expected news. Hopefully Apple will either make these chips not run as hot with M5 to make 14 inch thermal throttle less and to make it more silent by having the fans not turn on or just run at a lower RPM. When my 16 inch fans turn on it usually runs 1000 rpm and I can’t hear that

You’re spot on about Apple not updating the chassis or cooling to match the power output. I was feeling some FOMO initially, but several people have told me they regret upgrading to the M4 Max, mainly because the fan noise is unbearable. Your suggestion to go with the M4 Pro or M3 Max instead is solid-consider me subscribed!

would 16 inch M4 Max, base model, be optimum? It has 2 less performance cores. Only added GPU cores, RAM, SSD compared to the M4 Pro. Don't forget, it also has dual encoders. Would 16 inch M4 Max would be a good balance option this year ?
@sk_overflow4 күн бұрын
The base model competes with the top spec m4 pro, imo. To your point about dual encoders, I’m trying to determine how much of a practical difference that makes compared to the m4 pro’s single encoder. I still think the m4 pro might be the better option. But won’t know till it arrives next week and I do some testing.

@sk_overflow4 күн бұрын
I wouldn’t recommend it at all because the minute you start using all the graphics core, this thing becomes an air fryer with 2-3 hrs of battery life. If you want to game, get a proper gaming laptop. This ain’t it.

@art-thou-gomeo4 күн бұрын
If gaming is important to you, a Windows PC is your best choice. However, if you already own an Apple Silicon Mac, using software like Codeweaver's Crossover can make Windows gaming possible - just consider it a nice bonus feature rather than a primary gaming solution.

The M4 max raises the CPU clock from the M3 max 4.05 to 4.5. The M4 max is more powerful but also requires more power to operate. The power draw is a lot more than the M3 max. A lot more power means a lot more heat and Apple’s advertising is deceiving. Ex. The M3 max in low power mode is more powerful than the M3 pro in normal mode which makes the cost of the M3 max over the pro worth it. The M4 max in low power mode is weaker than the M3 max in low power mode yet has the same battery life. At this point, the only advantage of the max this year is the dual encoders. Battery life and heat is worse than the M3 max. Sure it’s more powerful, but when I’m not plugged in, I am always in low power mode. The M4 max low power mode was a step back.
@sk_overflow7 күн бұрын
I did not know that. Thanks!

@ in order for the M4 Max to do what it do, it made some trade offs. To produce more power, it utilized, more power. Almost double the power of the M3 Max for an extra half GHz more. As a result cooling requirements were more stringent. So to keep the fans from running in low power mode, their chips were clocked slightly slower than the M3 Max was in low power mode. It was a decision that Apple made. In my opinion, the M4 max seems to be the chip Apple intended to release, and did not plan to release the M3 until but power output and utilization was properly optimized. M4 Max low power mode is still crazy powerful. More powerful than the M3 Pro and M2 Max. I just wish Apple optimized the heat and power consumption of the M4 Max a little more.
