Wife and I have had 4 Schnauzers all at the same time that slept with us. My Wife of 35 yrs. passed from brain cancer 11 yrs. ago and since then all of the dogs have passed too. One of them regularly had his back against my back and that felt so good. Love that breed and wanted more but my rescue lady talked me into a 6 yr. old Jack/Rat that was abused by 1st owner and an old couple couldn't keep her any longer. Brought her to the farm on Valintines Day 5 yrs. ago and what a Blessing. She minds very well and keeps me moving. Sometimes on the bed or on the floor under her blanket.

You probably shouldn't pet a dog on the head with whom you haven't formed a bond. Once you've formed a bond with your dog, they should allow being touched by you anywhere on their body. You have to be able to check them over for ticks or injuries, etc. All dogs are different in what they like. I had a female Boston Terrier that didn't like belly rubs and a Norfolk Terrier that couldn't get enough of them.
@TheDogBrain-p2f
@TheDogBrain-p2f 2 күн бұрын
That’s a great point! Building trust with a dog is essential before petting them, especially on the head, as not all dogs are comfortable with it right away. Once that bond is formed, it’s important they feel safe being touched anywhere especially for checking ticks or injuries. Every dog is unique in their preferences too, just like your Boston Terrier and Norfolk Terrier. It’s all about knowing and respecting what each dog enjoys!

Maya, my female Shih Tzu mix, bonded with me when I rescued her and her sister at 7 weeks old from a backyard breeder. Maya was about 6 months old when she saw me fall... she barked and got help and even tried to help pull me up herself. I trained her quite easily to become my mobility service dog, All 17 pounds of her...and what a gem!! She is an incredible mama dog too. She accidentally became pregnant( by a New Year's midnight rescue) when she was almost 2.and now, at almost 11 years old, she is still in charge of me, her 2 puppies, and bossing around the father of the pups (yes, we kept daddy dog!. Her girl pup is smart as a whip, still learning new things at 9 years old! Oh... and Polly Pocket, Maya's sister, passed within 2 days of the rescue....the day after Christmas. Good video. This being said, a number of well balanced dogs with a great bond with their owner can enjoy it and love it. It's great you do have this bond with your dog!! But: 1) it's not the case for most dogs 2) as general rule: if it's not your dog or a dog you've got a really great relationship with: don't do it (how much we all have that urge to)

It sounds like your dog has a strong prey drive and is very tuned in to the sounds around him! Dogs with hunting instincts can often get excited or frustrated by loud noises like thunder or fireworks, thinking it signals a hunt. Before getting a dog, people should also be aware that a puppy is (not: can be) very exhausting and a dog in general needs a lot of attention and quality time. Puppies bite and destroy just everything in the house when teething, and on walks they try to eat every garbage they find. It will end after some months, though. Grown up dogs need their walks at least twice per day around 1 hour each time, no matter how the weather is or if their owner has a hurting leg or the plague. If someone can't cope with all this it is better to get a cat or no pet.
@TheDogBrain-p2f

You’re absolutely right puppies are adorable, but they’re also like tiny, furry hurricanes of chaos! They’ll chew on anything that isn’t nailed down, and those walks? Rain, snow, or apocalypse, they’re happening! Owning a dog is definitely a big commitment, but the rewards are so worth it. And if someone’s not up for the challenge, maybe a low-maintenance cat is the way to go!

At 13 weeks old I did not approve of that, but there’s not much I can do about it but love her. She is part of my family sleeps in bed with me. She was crate trained for six months and that was the best thing we started with she never has an accident in the house and loves to go walk due to my circumstances I cannot walk for more than a half hour. I try to do that twice a day I wouldn’t trade her for a cat or a bird or anything other that you suggested when I sit outside in the yard, she sits right next to me. She’s just happy to be home with a family that loves her and she returns the love unconditionally.

I call BS on the first one. Say that when you have a dog with a broken tail. And BS on the fireworks/loud noises, too. It's cruel not to train your dogs to be chill when loud things happen in this world all the time. If you haven't bonded with your dog well enough for them to look to you as to how to act/respond to things and situations, it's one of those "shame on you" situations. Maybe it's a situation where is the dog is a rehab and was mistreated or lived a very rough life on the streets getting stuff thrown at him shoot away or whatever maybe the dogs got trauma over loud noises. Step up your game and learn about bonding in these situations. I successfully bonded with a hostile beaten, mistrustful, wild and feral acting pup [3 1/2 yrs to rehab til fear free and I could pet her at will*] was never afraid after realization dawned to start watching me was the key to learning how to act. * this poor pup was a mess to figure out. All the standard things didn't work. One day I was trying to initiate play - not in dog fashion - and was speaking out my frustration and thoughts out loud but in a kind babytalk voice and said "oh, I just wish I could just (complete with hand gestures) give you a good old scritchy-scatch on the neck and ears, Lovey Dovey!". And she took a very quick 3 or 4 steps - I thought she was going to attack me again - and stepped right in between my hands doing the motion! It was a Glorious Breakthrough! But I still had to put out scritchy-scatch hands for her to approach me. For about 3 and 1/2 years I couldn't really trained her, all I could do is bond, bond, bond. I would give her little growls or grunts of disapproval, basically acting like a mamadog. I even mimic regurgitation for bonding by dropping chewed food out of my mouth on the floor for her to eat. It was like magic. In the first week I figured that out. She hadn't had much contact with her own mother, she was kept across the room from her by an ignorant puppy spanking 18 year old girl. The dog's mother had a beaten spirit, and the girl was oblivious to the fact that the dog more than likely wanted to kill her at one point but was so "beat down" that she lacked the gumption, or rather, I should say always had puppies to look after - had she been allowed to do it, that is. The girl kept 12 to 15 puppies in a space hardly bigger than two men's size 12 hightop shoe boxes put together, and picked them up and spanked them when they squabbled like puppies do. I don't mean play spank, I mean like she was trying to smash them in her hands by clapping them to death. I would have attacked her except that I had already seen how her man handled the 6-month-old bullmastiff. If he had raised a hand to me, I probably would have peed the carpet too, and then it have to beat me for that as well! I reported them to every agency that I could think of...to 0 avail!

1. Giving importance to what they feel is important. For instance, when I go on walks, my dogs always spend an extra minute sniffing the scents on the road. I don’t pull them away immediately even if it feels dirty. To my dogs, it is an important part of their day - knowing the world outside. 2. Leash free time. As a reward for being good for n number of days, I let them have leash free experiences outside. I show them that I trust them. And the leash is only for their protection and not a restraint. 3. I make them part of the conversation. In general, I operate on the belief that dogs are wise and are able to understand everything. The Golden is still young, but with my Pomeranian, I can genuinely share anything and everything. I also make it a point to understand his perspective, his character and his ideals even… He is only 12, but I believe he is a big brother to me. And I can depend on him. This is possible for every dog. Dogs can be much more that a typical dog owner imagines. When they stop thinking about what they need or where they want their dog to fit in into the blueprint of their life…when they actually learn to trust and depend on the dog just as the dog trusts and depends on them… When they learn to have genuine, deep and meaningful conversations with their dogs….that’s truly a blessing.

@@elizabethmileham2267 Hey! I think I may have missed the mark on a few things in this video 😅. But it’s great to hear that your dogs are living their best lives sounds like they’ve got it all figured out! Thanks for the feedback, and I’ll keep working to improve for the next one. Appreciate you sticking around!

I have 2 indoor kids. My Beagle Jesse is right beside me or using me as his pillow every night! My American Foxhound Victoria gets her goodnight hugs and kisses and sleeps either at the end of my bed or in her own bed... which is like a bed for a princess 💖

How heartwarming! Jesse sounds like such a loving companion, and I love that Victoria has her princess bed. They’re both lucky to have such a caring home! 💖

My female Bichon/Shih Tzu mix always seems to know when I don't feel well. She will lay quietly by my side and ask nothing of me. It's very comforting.

That’s so touching! Dogs have an incredible intuition and can sense our emotions. Your Bichon/Shih Tzu mix sounds like a wonderful source of comfort! 🐾💖

The female dogs usually pee at the place which you choose for them or the place you use.

@@TheDogBrain-p2f hahaha mine pees wherever on our walk & never in our bathroom… where I pee. But it’s cool to know that if I ever decided to go outside for some unbeknownst reason my girl would claim me. I love her so much

As a boy home owner I pee outside more times than not. Saves a lake of water a year. And direct it correctly so I don't have to poison my yard with Roundup.

@@rockandfkingroll7464 Haha, you're basically a walking irrigation system! Saving water and keeping the yard chemical-free now that's next-level homeownership! Just make sure the neighbors don't catch you on "sprinkler duty!"

My male dog will make a low, quiet growly sound when I haven't shared the food I am eating when he thinks I should. I usually give him a bite if the food is okay for him to eat too, then take a bite or two myself. If I take a 3rd bite without sharing, then I hear that cute low, growly sound. When I look at him, he has such a serious, "what do you think you are doing" look on his face. :)
