Oh boy do I ever! This is a big fad for me right now. The book that I always want to recommend to people is You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle. I review that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGXYc3xop7KqjMUsi=xfOPlHQxmGuT-qX6. That one is several layers of ridiculous and I love it. In terms of new releases for this year, the top is The Ex Vows by Jessica Joyce. I'll link that and a few other recs from this year here: The Ex Vows - Jessica Joyce - kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGfWqGN9jsmVr5Isi=oEW6IyAIbLn6ZSu1 Right on Cue - Fallon Ballard kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZqTQhmdoqLNopcksi=WGzvz5dWPcgy6YuP The Paradise Problem - Christina Lauren kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnbCaH-ImcmCp9ksi=qCuYKvnvpvjpdvoK I could go on and on, but these are my tops of this year so far!

Could do with more cursing and carousing, though. Can't wait to listen to every episode! You have earned my subscription.

It is great to see that you are relatively getting on the right track with your reading, but the fact that you are active and enjoying yourself is what matters most. It is great to see that you are very close to being on track with your ARCs. I only read one ARC, or book that I won in a Goodreads giveaway, and I did not finish it until the book was already released. Last year, I read and reviewed the one ARC that I read in 2023 right before it was released. I need to improve on that front. Aside from my Goodreads goal, what we discuss as a group on our channel, and what the new book club I joined is discussing, I have no other firm reading goals. I will sometimes do something here and there, like reading so many books from the Mock Newbery List as I discussed on our Reading Roundtable. I bought seven more books and plan to do something similar, only this time I would like to have them all finished before they announce the Newbery Medal winner and honors in early 2025. I have a roundup video that will be released soon. Thank you for sharing and I hope you achieve most of your goals for the end of this year! -Josh

Honestly, we both sometimes feel kind of trapped with all of the ARCs that we read. We feel obliged to read them on time since we have them early and it means that we sometimes have to let other books that we are excited about or interested in get stuck in TBR limbo. I think mini challenges like that can be so fun to do. I have a couple ideas that I'm hoping will be TBR busters, that also are mini challenges for myself. Thank you for watching Josh!

I get what you are saying. That is where reading becomes more like homework than pleasure, but I find that a good balance is necessary... if possible. I think it is all a matter of reading what you are able to handle.

Completely agree! I also have read 2 Em Hens prior and this one instantly felt like it was missing something, both with the overall vibe and characters, they just don’t fly off the page like her characters normally do. I also thought the pacing was crazy, the beginning being chaotic, the middle being slow and dialogue-heavy and the end being so fast I was getting whiplash at the rapid sequence of events. Still a good book and I thought the friendship and stuff with Daphne’s dad was done really well, but not up to Em Hen’s normal standard. What’s your favorite book by her?

@LiteraryGladiators I definitely stuck with that job longer than I probably should have. I loved what I was doing, but the culture and the people I was working for wound up sucking the love out of it. It was time to move on, and now I need to figure out where I'm going from here. In the meantime, I'm going to try and reclaim my hobbies so there will definitely be more videos coming.

I've been subscribed for a while (since I found your 30 Seconds to Disagree "John Dies at the End" video, at least), but I don't think I ever really said hi. So, hello 8^) I know what it's like to deal with being the unemployed one in the relationship. I even know how it feels to work for B&N (I was a janitor there, which is its own six-pack of worms). As for right now, the only thing I expect from you is to make sure you're in a good headspace 8^) When life weighs on you in such a way that you need to make big changes, and quitting a job is a big change, sometimes navigation is tricky. I only wish you the best going forward. Anyway. Until our paths cross again, be well 8^)

That was FOREVER ago. Thank you so much for hanging around that long! Yeah, I'm definitely trying to come to terms with being okay with not contributing financially so that I can take care of myself and heal from the burn out I'm experiencing. Even just this week I'm having my eyes opened to how many of the hobbies and even just small things that I used to really enjoy doing that I stopped doing because I was that low. Listening to podcasts and watching KZbin videos even seemed like it required more attention than I was able to give. So yeah, spending some time healing and making a new plan. I'm excited and nervous but I think that is normal for major changes. Thank you for the heartfelt comment it really made my day. :)

I definitely bought the book expecting half to be in the courtroom, from page 1 I was playing pseudo-detective to figure out who I thought would be the guilty party and each chapter had me slowly moving toward there isn't going to be a wholly guilty party and its not going to be what I thought it was. Good book tho I guess?

I liked this book and I thought it was a good book, but I hated the inoffensive portrayal of archangel Michael in the book. how religion is the main factor in the book but it completely disregarded one of the TEN COMMANDMENTS to not lie. I speak of this because in the book -spoiler warning- Michelangelo di bologna insists that Jean lies about here fit to stop the book burnings, but here’s the thing even a little white lie is a sin and angels are NOT aloud to sin what so ever. ✨But other that that I liked the progression in the book and it was fun to read✨

@@BetwixttheBooks Im never picking Ali's books up, but Im guessing it was just "alpha male" type watered down with like one scene of him being possessive Honestly I've gotta find more reviews of these cause these books are all the same, this is the only different one apparently
@BetwixttheBooks
@BetwixttheBooks 8 ай бұрын
@arkkon2740 Honestly, I expected more possessiveness. He was fairly chill about her being around other people. There was exactly 1 "scenting" scene and while sexually charged was explicitly for protection purposes so they could "keep up the ruse" of her being under his protection ... they weren't even together at that point.

I am happy to see you making individual content again! I am glad that you had a decent reading year, but what matters is that you were reading and reading as you best found it fit for what you were able to accomplish. 2022 and 2023 were both not amazing reading years for me, but I read what I was able and what I felt would interest me and am hopeful that 2024 is going to be even better. I would find it difficult to properly rate and review fanfiction, as I am with quite a few mediums. When it comes to non-reading content, I can boost Booktubers, bookstores, restaurants, and other eateries that I enjoy, but I do not want to put down those that I am not as fond, though I will definitely gravitate toward those I like more and that is my testament to enjoying them. After watching your joint video with Gretchen, I figured I Want to Die, but I Want to Eat Tteokbokki would be your worst, but I honestly was not as aware with the other material that you mentioned, but I am glad you found a winner in Yerba Buena. I hope you have a better reading year in 2024, but more importantly one that makes you happy! -Josh

I am not good with ARCs at all! I have not acquired as many, but I am fortunate to complete either one or two of them per year on time. I completed Holding Pattern in time for its release. Unfortunately, and like with many of the ARCs that I have read, I was not a fan and there is a good chance that Holding Pattern will be on the Worst Books That I Read According to Goodreads video that I create each year. Unworthy Republic looks like something I would be inclined to read. It is good to hear that it is at least in the good to average category. It is unfortunate that your translated read was a dud. I am very much into following awards, because I have a thing for lists. I am currently reading potential Newbery nominees for the Medal and Honors of 2024 and am referring to a list on Goodreads when doing so. I am on my fifth book, and I am quite pleased with what I have read. I will probably put it aside, though, for when I begin my Alphabet Roundtable Read. I am eager to see what you have in store for 2024 and will catch up with what you have released! -Josh

We fall into the trap a lot of reading probably too many ARCs/New Releases. We have so many backlist titles that we don't get to because we are too busy focusing on the new new new stuff. I think both of us are trying to make an attempt this year to read more of our backlist titles. We use a website called Edelweiss to request ARCs that we are interested in rather than waiting for publishers/authors to reach out to us and that helps a bit because you have more say over which books you read. Not that we are opposed to reading something an author or publisher thinks we will like, nor do we always pick winners ourselves, it just tends to align more with what we want when we are the ones doing the reaching out. I feel like of all the books we read you would probably like it the best as it is a straight history book. We felt like it definitely gave good information but didn't have everything we wanted. Newberry was one of the awards that we both mentioned as a potential for that challenge along with the Women's Prize, Booker, and Hugos. We shall see what we end up reading as the year goes on and those lists start rolling out. Thanks for the comment Josh. -Michaela
@LiteraryGladiators
@LiteraryGladiators 9 ай бұрын
I may consider looking into Edelweiss, but I would much rather need ARCs/new releases if they are print copies rather than digital or ebooks. It feels good to have an immediate say about a particular work, though, for I feel that people that want to know what they are getting into know what it is they are getting into. As much as I know you and Gretchen love TheStorygraph and it does have more advanced data keeping and other abilities to keep track and rate your books, I find that Goodreads still has a better outreach and a greater ability to interact with other readers. Perhaps we will see TheStorygraph's reach with their reviews increase. You are referring to Unworthy Republic? From what I am gathering, it sounds like I would get the most out of that book. I am amazed by the different awards that exist globally and I saw some alternates that also award prizes to chapter books for younger readers that are similar and have appealing titles. I am collecting Newbery medalists and honors from year's past, but I think that because you can zip through them quicker, it is an easier award to follow (though I have experience reading books in a smaller window between judging the Booktube Prize and just reading for discussions on our channel). It will be interesting to see how your reading ultimately pans out. It is always a funny thing to see our expectations and then our results.

thanks for this review - definitely a rant-worthy read, and interesting to hear the perspective of someone not familiar with the first book. i read seasons of love last year and LOVED it. i even re-read it a few times, which i NEVER do. i was sooo excited for for never and always, but i started feeling “off” just a page or two in for the exact reasons you mention (WHY DOES BLUE SUCK SO MUCH AND WHAT ABOUT HIM COULD HANNAH POSSIBLY BE DRAWN TO!!???!!! blue doesnt appear in the first book at all but is referenced often, so my expectations for him were very high. instead, he had the personality of a wet fart.) i had to drop 1/4 of the way in to prevent it from ruining my memory of seasons of love. not sure i have ever had such a diametrically opposed reaction to two books in the same series. :(

I'm so happy to hear your review of the first book because I'm so interested in your perspective! I've gone over to the Goodreads page and heard similar things from people who loved Seasons of Love and I was ... so confused. I felt like I must be reading reviews about books from different authors. Sounds like I might have had that impression even if I'd read the first book. I've had it happen before where books seem a little different in quality, but this feels like a wild departure. It certainly seems like Greer is setting up another book in the series, so I hope that it is back to old standards for you! Thanks for watching!
