Recall waking up from the first endoscopic ultrasound and being asked how much I drank. “I don’t,” I replied. (Started having hypoglycemia symptoms in childhood, which was the *big* symptom twenty-five years ago. Got so bad it could no longer be ignored by the doctors. Fasting insulin levels were high enough that an *insulinoma* had to be ruled out. 5 months of Proglycem turned me into an insulin-dependent diabetic…)

I am 37yo and I just found out I was born with congenital dorsal pancreatic agenesis. I had a contrast MRI that made a cool 3D model of my pancreas. I can relate to most of these symptoms my whole life and was misdiagnosed. Only difference is my pain did not radiate to my back, because I don’t have most of a pancreas.

Thank you so much for this great discussion. I have all of these symptoms and have been in and out of the hospital for the last two months and have lost a little over 20 pounds. If I drink/eat anything other than plain water I will have horrific pain. Because I am not an alcoholic and because my Lipase levels are normal no ER doctor or Hospitalist would consider pancreatitis. I feel very helpless! Does anyone have any recommendations? I live in Florida btw. Thank you 🙏🏽

I came across this video by accident and I couldn’t believe I wasn’t alone. I’ve struggled with pancreatitis for 30 years. My story is very similar to the people who have shared. The information was very helpful. When one person said they wish someone could feel this pain for a second so they could understand. I know have cysts in my pancreas. I have been diagnosed with IPMN when I was 31. I shared this video with all my family members. With hopes they could better understand this condition. I feel that hearing other people’s stories they could better understanding what I go through and not “ here we go again “ I thank all of you for sharing your stories and how you all have found ways to cope with a devastating condition.

That’s the point of the pancreatectomy, they remove the whole pancreas so they have to go in like that to be able to get it. I’m supposed to have a consult, hopefully within the next month or so, to possibly get this surgery. I really hope I do. It’s definitely one hell of a major surgery but it’s so worth it to not be in constant pain and being hospitalized all the time.
