Hope it helps.. if it does it again there is another thing to check.. On the driver side of the engine, there is a large wiring harness that goes from the body to the engine and droops to near the valve cover.. check it.. Mine rubbed raw and would VERY intermittently shut down half the engine. Taped it back up and it has been great. Just FYI

I still have it, Had to put in on the backburner due to starting a business and renovating another house. I did have Jennies Garage - A KZbinr, Come out and play with it and I believe we narrowed it down to a CDI giving weak spark as well as Fuel Jetting too small causing it to not get enough fuel.. Hoping to wrap it up soon..

Yes, because it is driven off the timing chain, you will need to remove it - And I highly recommend replacing he chain at the same time.

Old video but its EXACTLY what I am looking for so thank you for taking the time to make it! I was wondering if you guys did notice any mpg improvements while you had the e3 plugs vs going to iridium/factory. I have been digging around and I think the improvement if any from the e3 plugs has mostly to do with copper tip vs iridium tip. The copper is just a better conductor basically so the coil packs are tuned for iridium maybe? If there wasn't a noticeable change in mpg then I think Ill be climbing out of this rabbit hole for a while!
@DillysADV10 ай бұрын
There was no significant change in MPG. Although it would have been hard to notice with this particular car because it was already a really high fuel economy car.

You are welcome.. I am sorry to hear about the cost.. Unfortunately some shops are all about making as much $$ as possible regardless. be sure to as for a break out of the costs (labor and parts) Labor is different everywhere but parts should really not be more that 20% over what the dealer quotes.. I have a '01 Sunfire with this engine. I believe the water pump has started to leak. I have 204,000 miles on the engine. I put in some stop leak about 6 months ago and the leak stopped. For how long, I don't know. This looks like a nightmare to do. I work on my own vehicles, but even thinking about doing this gives me a knot in my stomach. I don't drive my Sunfire much and if I can get by without replacing the water pump before the car ends up in the junkyard, so be it. Thanks for posting the video!!

I was able to do this job without removing the exhaust manifold. Crazy, I know. I strongly encourage you to not do it this way. There is one position where you can remove the pump, and slip in the replacement. It requires perfect euclidean geometry and a lot of swearing. But that's not the hard part. The hard part is getting the pump to seat in the inner timing cover. The sweet spot is at best 1 thou big. The manifold will interfere in ways you wouldn't think possible. I spent 6 hours just getting the new pump into the timing cover and another 4 probably installing the bolts. Had to use an inspection camera for a few of them. Moral of the story: remove the manifold.

The heat range of a spark plug doesnt determine how a engine will start. A spark plugs design determines how much heat is drawn out of the combustion chamber at operating temperature. For example if the spark plug has excessive deposits and its not being caused by wrong fuel mixture, worn rings, or seals than maybe a hotter plug will help burn off the deposits. Having a hotter spark plug than recommended by the manufacturer can cause excessive heat and damage. Be careful if your not familiar with it.
