@@abentleymedia the Canon RF-S 18-150mm is a R sensor lens and likely all most shooters would need. Also a bit "faster" f-stop at 18mm (f3.5) and obviously longer focal length equal to about 240mm on a full frame camera. I used EF-S lens with my Canon APS-C dSLR cameras and the 18-135mm eded up being a favorite. The RF-S 18-150mm would eliminate switching lenses all the time for me at least which is important (again to me.)

Thank you so much! I’d probably choose this camera over the a6400 for sports since it has less rolling shutter than the a6400 The a6400 doesn’t have any of the special features of this r50. That’s fair. Many, including myself liked the Pyxis, not many actually bought the camera. The Pyxis did deliver on what people had been asking for and of course people are gonna make a fuss over the minor things since they wanted it to be perfection with a cheap price point. Then you have Kinefinity and Zcam yes, the cameras not many know about, still good in their own right. I feel ad though you’re right with the fact that BM could shortcut this competition, however they’ve approved this project since the beginning. If this is truly what it is slated to be, I wouldn’t be surprised if BM markets this for a cut of the sales to then develop the better Pyxis just to really help showcase how community driven BM actually is. It is possible that it could get forgotten and you raise very good points. Thank you for tuning in and having this discussion! :)

@abentleymedia they can support a team to dev something and still develop their own project they're essentially allowing nexus project to pay for R&D and see who likes what and what they don't like. While BMD are never going to make the sales of Sony canon Lumix or Fuji I am not sure that's their aim and they have created a great space for themselves in the entry mid tier of filmmaking and those cameras do pack a punch well above while also offering a pipeline to deliver it in a seamless package. Though someone looking to spend 25k on a video package wouldn't really entertain bmd cameras even if it does everything they need. And the 7-10k bracket they're in (once you have bought accessories lenses etc) the competition is really stiff. And as that is pretty much aimed at someone like me I'd say the vast majority of these people are getting fx3s and c70s and FX6 and maybe a Komodo at the top end and those companies come with clout, which at the end of the day does matter. While companies like zcam have shifted towards lighting and seemed to have pretty much forgotten their cameras and focusing now on the zolar panels and kinefinity is just now not as so keenly priced compared to the competition so why would you bother? Cameras are hard. And buyers are fickle.

You’re certainly right and that’s well put. BMD does a great job at the level they’re at and I absolutely love mine but the clout and notability of the better marketed and sought after companies really make the market that much harder to get into. I really hope the R&D can help them down the line since they deliver such incredible products all around! You’re very knowledgeable about the entire film world! It’s great to see companies putting out products that are specifically tailored from multiple different requests that manufacturers across the world are getting, plus at an affordable price for the projected quality of this camera with its long time trusted imaging system. Plus, the snap on mount is just like an adapter, those have been around for a long time, so why not just integrate it into the actual body of the camera? Honestly, that’s a really amazing hope and would be really beneficial for everyone involved! I hope that this Nexus project can start a trend moving in that direction! I’m really glad to see that third party companies are now being able to tap into the actual inner workings of the cameras to be able to use and modify instead of just creating external accessories to make it work or function better. Sony's customer support and warranty system is dogshit. Also No open gate and no internal raw recording in 2025. Sony is a joke. And this is coming from a sony shooter but I'm not a sony bootlicker and reserve the right to criticize them.

Hey I respect that you use them in order to criticize haha. It is wild how they seem to make improvements to other things while neglecting better features. Like idk how long they kept putting out 8-bit consumer ready cameras before realizing they might need a 10-bit consumer camera haha

@@abentleymedia Sony continues to take the trend of re-releasing rehoused repackaged old tech to the max out of any brand. I own the FX3 and A7s3 and they're honestly the most overhyped cameras ever. I mean don't get me wrong, they are reliable do what I need them to for the most part (if you don't install the camera bricking dogshit software updates that is). Also they don't do open gate and no internal raw of any flavor, which is kind of a joke in 2025. Also keep in mind the supposed low light DR benefits come solely from the fact that sony's software bakes in noise reduction at the higher base iso.

The biggest one it has is the fact that it doesn’t do 4K 60fps. There’s also a limited amount of native lens choices, but the adapters that are available make that a non issue. Other than those, there really isn’t much else. It’s an incredible camera at such an affordable price. I hope this helps and thank you for tuning in! :)

Congrats on the purchase!! It depends on what you need. The a7 iii is a full frame so that’s nice, however it only shoots 4K up to 30fps and doesn’t have a 4:2:2 10-bit option for color. You also won’t get the new ai processing chip that will help with auto focus for different subjects and another interesting auto reframe feature that happens in camera if you film by yourself a lot. If it’s mainly for photos, then with the a7 iii you’ll be able to take more photos and have a larger buffer as well. I hope that information helps!
