Also a useful fact about greyhounds is that cooked pasta or rice kept in the starchy water really helps their sensitive tummies. An evening primrose pill in their dinner gives them a lovely shiny coat. Also a seaweed substitute for dogs helps with their plaque. Also bones like ostrich bones for example are really good for their teeth these are just a few more tips seeing as my family has owned 5 greyhounds.

I have had my black small greyhound for 5 months she is nearly 5 years old not interested in toys does not want to play with ball loves to go for walks but stays zt my side hates other dogs barking ,that freighting her a lot, otherwise loves to meet other dogs as long they are quiet does not run after birds or cats or small dogs. I love her good compagny.

We're thinking about adopting a greyhound. Ive had other breeds many years ago which we could let off the lead as they were trained/obedient. However, I'm worried that an ex-racer may see a smaller dog and run after it (chasing a small fluffy thing).... Im guessing we would always need to fit a muzzle? I'd rather not if it can be helped.

There is no way this greyhound is 100 pounds and only getting 2 cups a food a day. He's starving. Plus he needs more than dry kibble every day. He needs some meat and fish in his diet plus vegetables. At the kennels every day they get raw beef, vegetables, rice or pasta, vitamins and sometimes a piece of fruit on top mixed in with their kibble. And never feed grain free. It has been linked to heart disease.

So absolutely boring & basic! Poor Greyhound, you feed him so darn little! One cup of dry food in the morning and evening is NOT enough! It depends on the greyhound’s weight, activity level and brand of food. Follow feeding guide on the food bag but viewers consider feeding your grey raw meat ( preferably) or cooked meat 1.5 lbs, supplemented by 1 cup of dry food. Greyhounds in other countries eat a high meat diet and do not like kibbles. Perhaps US greys eat dry food! How boring for your greyhound but cheap and easy for lazy owners! It is also not true that greyhounds tear toys in the way demonstrated! Greys are some of the most gentle dogs and it depends on how you teach them to play and how you interact. Teach them to squeak their soft toy and they will gently do so and last. Same cannot be said if a lab. My 14 year old grey has soft toys since she was a pup !

I also have one. The most wonderful creatures, however, I think you might want to double-check your stats on feeding. My Éowyn gets four cups/day and is a perfect weight. You want to be able to see their last two ribs, but they’re typically underweight when they come off the track and you can see them all.

One cup of food, twice daily, for a 100 pound (45 kilo) dog? My 90 pound (41 kilos) greyhound gets 2 cups, twice daily, and he's maintained his lean, racing weight, and he's 5 years old. My 68 pound female is maintaining her lean, healthy weight by eating 1.75 cups of a food, twice daily. The recommendation in this video is, basically, suggesting half the required amount of food. My two dogs, together, go through a 45 pound (20.5 kilos) bag of food in one month. (4Health, beef & rice, 45# bag, from Tractor Supply, US$45... approved as being an excellent choice by their vet.) As for treats, I use a different flavor of the 4Health kibble, and even given just a couple of pieces as an award thrills them to pieces, plus if I'm particularly generous with the "treats", I can cut back on a main meal a bit, and this doesn't effect their bowels. Besides, so many treats are like junk food.

Nice solid video about what it is really like to own a greyhound. I have a greyhound/lab mix. He loves to run , but will only fetch about 4 times, then it is time to chill. And he will usually do zoomies on one of the fetches. He is also VERY vocal, something we didn't expect. he didn't become vocal until he turned 2. Fantastic on walks (this took some training), but now a neighbor will ask if she can walk him when she goes for walks. The fact that they will chill out most of the day is great, as they will rest mostly while you are at work. 100% agree on the toys. Our dog is a master at destroying toys.
