I watched this anime a few years ago, and honestly, for me, it was going so well, but it ended horribly and that left a sour taste on my mouth. The series fell apart in the final two episodes. In Episode 10, Sara uncovers the truth behind Ralph’s drastic change in behavior, setting up what should have been a compelling climax to resolve everything. However, in Episode 12, Sara inexplicably blames Ralph, treating him as if his actions were entirely his own doing and accusing him of forcing Emily into situations against her will, driven by selfish motives. This contradicts the clear setup that Ralph’s corruption stemmed from the Emily that influenced him, while the Emily he took with him in Episode 1 would logically understand his situation. Even worse, the Emily Ralph saved starts antagonizing him, despite her own technology being responsible for his corruption. Her behavior-acting like she had no part in his downfall-feels completely nonsensical and undermines the explanation provided in Episode 10. The writing becomes frustratingly inconsistent as Ralph explains his predicament directly to Sara and Emily, reiterating the earlier revelations, yet the story continues to frame him as the villain. The scene in which Emily chooses to side with Sara, portraying Sara as the better person, completely disregards Ralph’s tragic circumstances and paints an unfair picture of his actions. This betrayal by Emily is particularly jarring, given that she should be aware of how her own technology affected Ralph, and the telepathic connection between them should have made her more understanding. The sudden shift in how both Sara and Emily view Ralph feels forced and poorly written, especially since Emily initially showed no animosity toward him, even after the tragic events of Episode 1. By the time Episode 13 rolls around, the series fully unravels. Sara, with no hesitation, fights and kills her brother for his unintended actions, with Emily actively helping her. This final battle cements the story’s decline, as it becomes increasingly difficult to sympathize with Sara and Emily. Sara’s decision to kill Ralph-rather than trying to save him or explore other solutions-feels rushed and unjustified. There’s no clear indication in the narrative that killing Ralph was the only way to resolve the situation. Instead of showing any effort to bring Ralph back to normal, Sara’s immediate response is to end his life, making her motives feel shallow and unlikable. As Ralph dies, he reverts to his true kind-hearted self, expressing love for Sara, which only underscores how unnecessary and tragic his death was. This moment highlights the squandered potential of the story, as the writers disregard the carefully built explanations from earlier episodes in favor of an unsatisfying and mean-spirited resolution. The ending of the anime further disappoints, leaving key questions unanswered and relying on a bland cliffhanger. Sara and Emily walk through an empty area as the credits roll, offering no real closure. Adding insult to injury, Sara repeats Ralph’s meaningful quotes as though she sympathizes with him, despite ruthlessly blaming and killing him (and her angry accusing towards Ralph stick out way more). The rest of the protagonists continue to view Ralph as evil, with no hint that Sara might clear her brother’s name, making the conclusion feel hollow and frustrating. Ultimately, the series squanders its potential, leaving viewers with an inconsistent, poorly developed story and unlikable characters.
