Hi , all mortar joints should be sound, repoint as required. Particularly if it is an older chimney without a flue liner. No flue liner and surrounding infill, means cracked joints allow rain to penetrate straight into the chimney. Point up first then apply water seal 👍. Thank you for watching my channel 🙏
@carole37345 ай бұрын
I'm trying to get our chimney fixed. I'm guessing any break or cracking in cement work on the chimney needs to be repointed first, as weatherporoofer will only protects the brickwork and won't stop rain getting in through cracks.

Nice work. How long does the water seal last?
@JimKingsExperiences5 ай бұрын
Hi, water seal lasts a good few years. Just repels water from the brickwork so it runs off rather than soaking in. Some people re do it every year, but after a couple of times it would probably outlive the owners! Thanks for watching 👍

I plasterd a bedroom celling 1month ago and the customer rings me up and said all the plaster is coming of in sheets so went there it wasnt plaster it was paint were her son didnt mist coat it i took for granted every one knew that its important to mist coat😂

Hi mate, yes Ive had this before too. Learnt my lesson on that one years ago. Always make a point of telling customers about mist-coating new plaster👍. Thanks for watching🙂

Good job but shouldn’t really use gypsum basecoat when doing any kind of damp work. Renovating plaster or limelight the way to go

What have they done to solve the problem- the leaking shower? If that's fixed, there will be no damp coming through, surely?
@JimKingsExperiences6 ай бұрын
Yes very astutely observed!😉. But why not add a tanking coat whilst the plaster is off? Small extra cost and covers all bases. Peace of mind for the owners of an old property that are often prone to damp conditions! Thank you for your interest in my channel you splendid person 👍🙂

How long do you normally have to wait for pointing the bricks?
@JimKingsExperiences6 ай бұрын
Hi, lots of factors to affect when you point up. Main one is the type of bricks used. Some bricks are harder than others (eg engineering bricks). Harder bricks are less porous therefore will draw less water from the mortar. So it’s all about timing. If the mortar is too wet it will ripple and smear the brick face. Too dry, it will be very hard to rub in and will also look bad. Keep your eye on it and try to point when it feels just right👍. Thanks for watching 🙂

@@JimKingsExperiences Jim Total respect mate..yes I did tag him and steam inn. The problem is people really don't understand the game and it can be fucking hard work at times. They seem to think 🤔 it's a bucket hawk trowel and a bag of plaster. Mate as well coming from another job? And working till late to help a customer out is committed and commendable reliable. Also your night your giving up anti social when you like the rest are posting shit comments sitting in the armchair your still out with your partner doing your best!! Looks sounds like Mr security would show you how to apply and cut your mate out. Knowledge you can't bye it. Anyway Regards to you both!! 👍

If that's my house and i am watching this video, i would be thinking i have paid for two plasterers, when only one has actually done any plastering, that's how i see the video. A similar situation happened on a job i was on, one guy doing the work and the other basically watching, so the homeowner asked them, when did plastering become a spectator sport, and when it came to paying them, he didn't pay them in full.

Most people that I work for, are intelligent enough to know that a fourteen hour job cannot be covered by a 13 minute video. Ive also been in the game long enough to spot potential non-payers at the start. Also, all of my work comes from recommendations by previous people that I have worked for. I never advertise and have never needed to, so I really don't care about the odd person that isn't that clever!! Thank you for your interest in my channel, peace bro!!

@@JimKingsExperiences unfortunately the way the video is edited it shows you putting plaster on your mate's hawk. If it's a 14hr job then it's a days work for two men. As for the job I commented on, the guy was in the right not to pay the full amount, I wouldn't either.

@@acelectricalsecurity have i misread the comment that as a paying customer if was your home with one guy mixing up preping cleaning up handballing the plaster to his mate on his hawk you wouldn't be happy paying for two men? The price is the price period if he wants to bring 3 guys it doesn't matter or on his own. When a customer wants to start doing a breakdown of costs for all he knows the labour guy could be on £10 Its not for a customer to do the maths it's a price simple take it or leave it. There could be many factors why its a two man job and like most plastering it's a two man job makes things easier. Excuse my sharp happy for you to pick up on this as said you wouldn't pay wow what the customer never takes into consideration is all the effort to make it happen i could happily give you a break down of wear and tear..the minute you get in your van is when you start..picking up materials..wear tear on van..tax mot..tools..experience..your time sometimes at weekends you give up. To help a customer..many many factors. I'd like to know how much that room is worth to plaster? Yet seeing two men you wouldn't be happy paying but only 1.
