Concentricity checks whether different cylindrical features of a part share the same axis. This tolerance is critical in components where parts need to rotate smoothly about a fixed axis, such as in automotive and aerospace shafts, where any misalignment could lead to operational issues.

In summary, while roundness focuses solely on the shape of a feature in a single cross-sectional plane, concentricity involves the relationship of circular features along a common axis throughout the part, making it much more challenging to measure and control.
