Not really fair to compare the Grand Marquis to the Electra and 98 - those were premium luxury models, like the Cadillac DeVille and Lincoln Town Car. The Olds Delta 88 and Buick LeSabre were more closely aligned with the Grand Marquis demographic.

I've got the same powertrain in my 1983 Lincoln Continental Mark VI. Very reliable! The 302 V8 is no neck snapper, but is smooth, efficient, and dependable. The AOD transmission is also very durable! Panther platform cars are just plain good!

What size socket did you use to remove the nut securing the brake rotor/wheel bearing assembly from the shaft?? I have a 1986 Lincoln Town Car that uses an identical front brake rotor as yours. Also the size of the caliper bolts

How did you undo the bolt at the back of the alternator (the one down low)? It took me all day to undo it on my V90 (which is very similar to the 850 around the alternator). It's certainly a good idea to make a note of where each bolt belongs and whether it has a nut or screws directly into the structure.

Not a bad video, but a few details missing. I hope I can help fill in some of them. The cover behind the lever is pulled by hooking around the rear edge, because it has hooks on three sides (top, bottom and front). Then you remove the torx (proper term - not 'star') screw behind the cover. the window switch assembly it also pried up on the rear edge, or else you break the hook on the front. Then you'll see another torx screw. There is a screw on the rear edge of the door panel, behind a cover, and two at the bottom (that you show). Those are a #2 Phillips head. After prying off the handle cover, two more torx screws are visible for removal. Then you remove the mirror inside cover by pulling towards center of vehicle. Then you can lift off the door panel up and out. You'll notice the door lever cable and lock switch wires are still attached. This is when it's easier to look from behind and see how the lever and switch assembly are held on to the door panel. So remove it by pressing the clips from behind, where they hook on to the door panel. These are the tricky parts I can think of.

+Paul Santos Thanks for the additional help. There's a fine line between "prying" and "tearing it up," as I know all too well. Helps to know which direction to start from.

A quick google search should have revealed the (short) list of possible culprits on the 1996 Volvo 850. 1. Front driver's side wheel ABS sensor. 2. ABS Module failure. 3. Wiring fault. 4. Fault in instrument panel. The transmission speed sensor is not used to drive the speedometer, but is an input for the TCU - if it fails, your speedometer should still work just fine, but the flashing arrow warning light on the dash will appear. This setup is also very common on modern cars from any maker. Of course, you can be EASILY forgiven for thinking otherwise, since this is counter-intuitive.

its a Volvo if you cant work on them then these are NOT the right cars for you ! ive owned 3 and they get awesome mileage and run forever ! just when you don't know what your looking at and where it goes and you need to pay someone else thats when these cars are money pits... I think of the s70 / 850 as big model cars they are super ez to work on but you do need to be mechanically inclined ..

Gordon302 Pfft, put me behind the wheel, LOL! My foot knows two positions: (1)on the ground and(2) pushing through the firewall. If my transmission isn't crying, I'm not happy. Then again, 180,000 miles of that and my 850 still just says: "Is that all you got?"

gta19901 - Of course it's worth it. Heck, I'd rather have a Bosch alternator vs. a "Doesn't-Last" (Duralast) one from AutoZone. AZ offers you a lifetime warranty, because they know, come two years from now, you'll be changing it again. This Volvo is a turbo (AKA T5 in 1997), & is rated at 225hp. Everyone has to start somewhere, when doing repairs on an unfamiliar vehicle. If you think this is fun, wait until you have to change the dreaded rear main seal. Volvo's are known for this, being a 100,000 mile maintenance item. Basically, you have to take out the entire transaxle (transmission). However, if your goal is simplicity to keep it going for right now, please, for the love of God, check your timing belt! Access couldn't be simpler; there's only one 12mm bolt to loosen, & the plastic cover simply slides right up. Being that this is an interference engine, if this belt either slips out of alignment or breaks, your engine is fucked. The valve stems will either be ejected out of the top of the engine, or they'll bang into the pistons & get all bent up.

Thanks for this video. My passenger front speaker just stopped working on my '09 this morning. Gonna do some troubleshooting this weekend by swapping the driver and passenger speakers to see if it's the speaker or wiring/head unit that's causing problems. This video will save me a bunch of time trying to figure out how to take everything apart! Seems pretty much 90% the same as my Mustang was.

The speaker size is between 5"x7" and 6"x8". Pioneer sells specific "ford" compatible speakers for this.

Robert Slaybaugh I think there are other companies, probably anything you see stated as 6"x8" with 2 sets of mounting holes around the outside of the speaker is made with 2 sets of holes to fit the fords. Pioneer TS-A6885R is just the most common replacement choice, and is a really really good option for the price. Since replacing mine 4 months ago I have loved every second in my car.

This video helped me a lot but has some flaws. Some basic tips on the order : Remove the windows button trim, the trim on the large handle (that does not open the door), and the side view mirror trim (black triangle over the door panel). Then remove trim behind the door handle (one that opens the door). Then remove 4 torx screws (t-30). Then remove 3 Philips along outer edge of door (2 visible, 1 behind cap). You DO NOT remove the trim around door handle (one that opens the door) till after you have the whole panel loose and 6 inches away from door. (its much easier that way). Pry the door panel away from the door using special tool, or however you choose. (there are 7 plastic white connectors that can be replaced if broken) . Finally with the door panel hanging slightly away from the door you can remove the door handle trim from the back of the door panel.

I forgot to mention that you need to unscrew the black plastic door lock that pops up and down when you lock / unlock car. You do this anytime before prying the door panel off the door.
