Thank you, brian, very kindly for sharing this... my grandmother was irish, but-- my dad moved us to calif, from ohio...we never got to know her... he gave her a trip out, faithfully, every year until she died of old age... we will never know our full irish past.. settings, like this, from other irish, give us bits of treasure that we can't find on our own.. god bless... her name was Gallagher...

Joe used to stay in Clydebank, near Glasgow in Scotland. He married a women from Glasgow I believe and has either sons or extended family still in Scotland. God bless Joe Heaney. A genius. A voice from Heaven itself.

He must've been a great man to sit and chat with. I only discovered him about four or five years ago while digging for old Irish music, and boy when I did, I was _over the moon!_ This is a wonderful post. My only regret about it is the tune at the beginning being cut off; I've never heard that one before.

Well, I certainly believe Robin Williamson and his comment about Joe and his sharing a stage at the Sydney Opera House. I presented them both as part of the Larrikin Festival of Folklife Series in the 1980s.

The source for this video is www.joeheaney.org. It is great to see it being so widely enjoyed. A team spent a year working on this material to provide it free for all users and acknowledgement citing the source would be greatly appreciated.

@@brianoc22 Good man yourself, Brian! When I was a boy people used to say that every time a great singer dies, a 100 great songs, stories and poems die with him. I'm on in years now and I think it might be true.

in reference to the Flight of the Wild Geese, is that why they call America the Wild Goose Nation? is it because people migrated to it, like the geese to every season? I first heard the term when listening to blackface minstrel music, written in the late 1800s.
@brianoc227 жыл бұрын
Kegan, I have no idea, but the Irish wild geese tended to settle in France and spain...

Hi Jay, thanks a million for your comment. I spent a lot of time in Lourdes myself, although not for spiritual reasons. I did feel some sort of healing power in the place, so I can understand your experience. All the best, Brian

I felt I was cured of my shyness here as did an open mic as 2 guys said they put me down 4 it but I just did it and brought the place down (doin stand up) and since then I have enjoyed doing it and became more confident, also I have been able to over come my shyness (as I was very shy before going to Lourdes) I also hope to do TV presenting and acting in the future.
