You’re right it does sound great, apparently also the speaker inside is an early forerunner of quad technology, nicer sound than a Dansette !

The record player is a great reminder of what we had back in the day! I became employed in 1960 as a UK teenager and had one very similar which I took with me to London when I started work. I seem to recall it cost around £16 and was paid on hire purchase at something like7 shillings (old currency) a week. I even remember the LP I took along - it was the soundtrack to the film "Ben Hur". Funny how these things come back in the memory.

Would you have said John it was priced / aimed at the higher end of portable decks ? The chap who brought it back to life for me said the speaker within was a forerunner to a quad speaker, that he had only seen in a quad speaker previously, the earlier bunch of 78s I recorded of my own are much cleaner and better condition then recent additions, the sound is fantastic !

Could well have been the case, but I had only just started work then my wage was £3 per week and after giving mum her housekeeping it was the only way I could purchase it.Not moaning though had it for years loved it.

in a day and age when singers' voices are fed through computers for "pitch correction" the pure and natural harmony of Don and Phil's voices seems almost surreal. they were unique.

A good teacher for a couple guys named Lennon and McCartney ... although their vocal work was never as crisply precise as The Everly Brothers.

this is the sound we heard back in the day - btw, this song was controversial and many radio stations refused to play it on the grounds that 2 young people having fallen asleep together was utterly scandalous

Just come over from your Flickr to have a nose-around your KZbin and this was irresistible as I love seeing and hearing vintage stuff like this in operation. I um and ah over doing something for KZbin of my Pye VHF3D 'Stereophonic' radio in action when it's in a 'good mood', as it's getting temperamental and buzzy from time to time, but when it is on good form it can blast the room out on FM, or rather VHF as it was called when it was manufactured back in 1960. 'Rave On' has a sort of sentimental value, since, when I re-took my GCE A-Levels at Derby College of Further Education from September 1980 to June 1982, my German lecturer was in a series of Rock 'n' Roll and Rhythm & Blues bands and one of them was called Rave On.

This is awesome!!! Thank you for this. You can really hear The Crickets harmonising in the background as well as the 'cricket' chirp at the end. I agree that there's a slight intermittent lag, but it still sounds beautiful. Thanks again, from the USA. ❤

Thank you for this! Buddy sounds absolutely wonderful here. "Rave On" is my favourite song. I've been doing research on the whole British Buddy Holly thing that Joe Meek had and it's quite intriguing. Please play some more Buddy records. Thanks again, from the USA.❤
