I know this video came out about a year ago but I wanted to ask you how did you find tires for your bike? My wife is trying to restore a 1963 schwinn and the tire size is odd. Do you know of a good website to look on for those?

You might want to go trying to leaned forward downward towards the Handle bar. You should try a 1980s 10 speed betcha you will be able to hit 45 mph.
@GoodTimeBikes4 ай бұрын
I tried everything I could that day and nothing was working out for me. However, I did surpass my goal on a bigger hill. Also, I definitely agree that a 10 speed would have picked up more speed and it would have felt more stable I bet haha

Well, going 40 mph is not as fast as I was going through. When my brake cable broke in half inside my brakes case when I was going down St. Croix Falls between Minnesota and Wisconsin when I was young during the 80s. My friend and I were heading out to my Dad's cabin in Wisconsin. I've had some how Managed to make it down the hill and cruising between 50 and 65 miles per Hour without having any Sort of problems with bumped in vehicles or people who are walking around on the right side of the road to look over the river. All I know is that I would not want to go through that again. Note; If any other person who is planning on a long-distance road trip. Best of go replaced your brakes cables before you go. Because of that, I have truly learned a very important lesson.

@@campcrafter4613 Yes and a huge development is where that field was. I still remember how quickly the front wheel started to wobble and my hand slipped off the handlebars and before I knew it I was looking at the sky. Then the ants started biting and I was on my feet taking my pants off. Got a lot of scrapes even with the heavy jeans I had on but nothing broke.

I use electrolysis for rust removal. Pits I generally solder or braze over. Electroplating is possible at home, but you need to do a lot of polishing. Never had the Schwinn sing ray but I did have the Sears Ted Williams version of a chopper bike. Once I grew tall the bike eventually was too small to ride and it sat in the garage. My parents must have thrown it away when I moved out. Had a slick rear tire, glitter banana seat, wheelie bar and glitter grips. When I was in Junior high I actually restored it down to taking the spokes off and polishing and straightening the wheels, 40 miles an hour on that thing seems suicidal.
@GoodTimeBikes7 ай бұрын
Electrolysis is an excellent idea! I haven’t done it myself but I’ve seen videos and it seems to produce awesome results. Sorry to hear you lost your old bike back then but I think it would be neat for you to track down the same bike and do a restoration project again. I guarantee you’d feel like a kid again! The high speed videos come with a little bit of risk but it was worth it :)

I can't believe I came across your video. While cleaning out my mother's garage, I found my sister's 1966 Schwinn Stingray which isn't it that bad of shape. I was going to find someone to restore it, but you give me hope. I'm still watching them and realize I need Schwinn tools. I'm giving the bike to her for Christmas. Schwinn's "Violet HA" is one of the craziest paints I've ever seen. Under some lighting conditions it can look purple, under others it can look maroon, and under others it can look bright pink! ...and If worn and aged enough, it can just look like a hard maroon under any lighting. I like it, but I wish they would have stuck with the original "purple opal," that they only used in '63 & '64(?). I've got a few 'Rays. Where do you score your parts, Ebay?
@GoodTimeBikes10 ай бұрын

I had a '66 Schwinn Sting Ray from new, I was 10 years old. It was even purple with a 2 speed kickback. I did a lot of things with it, knobby tires and solo saddle for dirt jumping and trail riding, springer front end with a skinny front tire and wide slick, repainted, reupholstered, all the stuff. I could wheelie it as far as I wanted. But I never went 43 mph on it! Well done!

That being said, the Stingray I learned how to ride on is restored and immaculate and I have plenty of trophies I've won with it, so to each their own. Lol.
