I have a 2014 Ford Edge 3.5 AWD with the FACTORY TOW PACKAGE. The Factory tow package includes a bigger radiator, better fans, oil and transmission cooling, upgraded suspension, and sway control. I'm a builder and have towed plenty of heavy trailers long distances and even off road on loose soil and gravel at job sites and landfills. This boat is light work.

What makes him a "retard"? Your ignorance? Towing safely isn't only about your vehicle's rating. Plenty of 3/4 ton trucks underwater or on their sides in a ditch. Plenty of cars safely parked on the lot while families wmjoy a fun day.

Hmmm, what is the problem here? 20' pontoons with the trailer weigh around 3700 pounds, so it may be a tiny bit over, but not that bad. I'm guessing he isn't going far either, so again, what is the problem here? It's not a pickemup truck? Who gives a shit.

The problem isn’t that it can’t “tow” you could use a small compact car to tow a trailer much larger, the issue comes when it’s time to stop the moving mass. It creates a lot of wear and a potential for brake fade, or loss of control. In this case let’s say the pontoon weighs 3500lbs and your towing capacity is 3500lb you have to include weight of the driver and all passengers as well. Also you should pay more attention to max payload before max towing capacity.

Btw I have had a commercial driver's license for 30 years amd had ZERO accidents or tickets towing everything from A's, to B's, to hotshots and pickups with landscape trailers. So you could say I know what I'm talking about.

I pull my 18ft pontoon with my 2017 Edge Sport. Total wight is around 3,000lbs, Edge rating is 2,000. Never felt squarely, overloaded, or slow to stop.

Edge is rated to tow 3500lb (braked) in North America. Have an SEL with the 2.0 turbo, I've towed a ~4000lb trailer with 5 passengers in the car (2.0 EcoBoost/6F35 6 speed AWD, without the factory tow package, but with an aftermarket Class 3 hitch rated for 7500lbs), and it did it so easily, maintaining highway speeds. Even over slight hills, I never felt a lack of power (if you wanna take it fully loaded over mountainous terrain frequently, I'd recommend an aux tranny cooler and an air lift kit). It comes with a stock transmission cooler, and Engine & Transmission Temps remained normal (monitored using Carscan OBD). I am pretty sure that Ford has underrated the tow capacity of the edge in the US for liability purposes, as this should most likely be in the 4.5-5k lb territory. In the UK it's rated to tow 4400lb (braked)(so I'm pretty sure that is a marketing tactic in the US to push customers towards trucks!). Just make sure to change your fluids much more often if you tow regularly. If you tow 3500-4000lbs(braked), the edge will tow it as if the trailer is non-existent.

Wow they changed the dials. My 2022 Tremor is my favorite truck I ever owned. I have to put weight in the back in winter to keep the rear wheels planted. Still a go anywhere rig that gives me confidence.
