Could we hear the final result of this tuning? It looks like a super harp, and thank you for the procedure. I actually broke 2 strings a while ago being too impatient, so good to know 🌹
@JacquelinePollauf6 күн бұрын
Actually it took me a few days to get the harp back in tune, and I just made this video within a day, so I did not play it again at the end. However, it is tuned in the key of C, so it sounds quite standard.

I appreciate this lesson & want to know if you would recommend this harp for beginners, those who might need this size. Thank you for your time. I enjoy these beautiful videos. Warm regards
@JacquelinePollauf11 күн бұрын
So glad to hear that you enjoy the videos! The harp that I was using in this video (a Mid East Minstrel harp) is not very high quality, so if you're looking for a harp to play for some time, it's not a great choice. However, for a beginning who might just want to try playing for a couple of months to see if they like the harp, it can be an entryway, similar to a beginning pianist starting with an inexpensive keyboard.

How often should we change our strings? Should we be replacing them all every couple of years?
@JacquelinePollauf11 күн бұрын
A good general approach is that professionals change their entire set of strings every year and students and amateurs should change theirs every three - five years. I have a video about changing the full set actually: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqmanZ2PnrFnhs0

All your videos are helpful but this one, in particular, is the best. Like many progressing beginners I have watched and tried so many ways to tie the knot and each time it was always stressful. My 4th octave B on the pedal harp broke about three weeks ago. I was occupied with a difficult project on a deadline and didn't have additional energy to deal with the stress of changing a harp string. So, no practice until my lesson a couple of days ago which I had to use as practice and which my amazing teacher understood the reason why. She once told me it was better to keep the lesson even if I hadn't practised because there'd always be something I could learn--and it was true, I did learn new things. In addtion I felt inspired to change my string as soon as possible so that I could get back to my regular practice which I usually love because the sound of the harp is always so wonderful. This morning, I changed my string in less than three minutes. Your method is so easy I couldn't believe how quickly I was able to tie the knot. Thank you so much.

I'm so glad to hear that this was helpful and that you were able to change the string smoothly! Replacing strings can be quite difficult. And that's great about your teacher and the approach of always having something to learn in a lesson - I feel the same way.

Hey! Great video, this series is incredibly helpful. I just got the spare disk but I'm not sure that it's the right one: are the two disc rows the same dimensions? How can you tell from the piece? (It looks similar to the one i have to change but idk). Thanks!
@JacquelinePollauf20 күн бұрын
Glad this is helpful! The discs change based on which octave they're in. Usually when you're ordering a disc, you can specify what you need it for. Otherwise, I would compare it to the nearby discs and the disc that it's replacing. Good luck!

This reminds me of a conversation we had recently about orchestra parts and how entrances can be really difficult; playing cold is definitely a big part of that difficulty for me. Something like the Symphonie Fantastique, you have to sit quietly through 15 minutes of the first movement (and potentially any tuning or other music before that piece) before coming in on a fairly tricky bit of music. Weird as it sounds to essentially practice sitting, I've often thought I should be rehearsing the wait through all the music leading up to an entrance (with a recording) as part of orchestral performance prep, but I've rarely if ever actually done it. Do you ever do that yourself, and do you recommend it for others?
@JacquelinePollauf2 ай бұрын
If it's something I haven't played before, I like to know how long a preceding movement (or piece) is, and I do prepare mentally for what I'm going to think about during that time. Usually I try to focus on a musical aspect and really connect with the music or composer while waiting. I don't usually rehearse this waiting, but it is definitely something I'm thinking about and am aware of in my practicing. Hope this helps!
