Watched your TT journey over the last couple of days. Enjoyed it. I drive an S3 8P 2012, had it about 3.5 years. Bought with 47k on the clock, now 106,000!! Bit gutting, lots of motorway driving - I’ve enjoyed it though. Have been pretty good at preventative maintenance and better than good on engine servicing, Haldex twice, DSG once. Was in the garage today for a wheel hub and bearing, sorting out of rear brakes after recently poorly fitted elsewhere, couple of brake hoses and an anti roll bar link. The joy of driving it and it feeling better is huge, it’s not felt right for some time to be honest. Think I was using the wrong garage perhaps. Have had the timing belt done recently, but am advised there is also a chain, so want to get that done. Also on the radar are perhaps a flywheel and clutch, a carbon clean, cam follower, maybe a new cat (there’s a rattling sound that bounces back of the central reservation when in the fast lane with the window down), some rust treatment and protection, couple of little bits of bodywork, a door seal, and an injector service. The list is endless, I don’t know how many of those things are important right now, or just advisories. Maybe a good idea to do the things that could otherwise cause big problems, like the cam follower. I think the TTS and the S3 are similar, right? Same engine and gearbox? Long spiel, but thought I’d put it out there as I realise the costs of getting these sorts of cars to the mileages that yours has achieved. Nice one.

U seem to have bought a great value TTS, so the £800 doesnt hurt. Labour on the booster should b interesting I test drove a 3.2 Mk2 with 90k mls recently - My first Mk2 drive. Loved it. V comfortable ride, quicker than expected in 2nd, slows down a tad from 3rd It looked standard and yet the drama from the VR6 was very surprising and pleasing :) - Excessive throttle opening during down blips was genuinely surprising - addictive induction gargle :) Then I discovered that the Gov have got in on yet more parasitic taxing and steal over £700 / yr on a £4k car......That, added to sub 28mpg with heavy right foot, makes it rather expensive to run...without your type of maintenance bills May save up more and try a TTS or settle mid way for a 2.0tfsi and map it to around same power as TTS Also tried an hdi RCZ which I loved for its styling inside and out. Not willing to risk a Price petrol variant. - Again map it - to 330 lb ft torque - Ride on this is very hard on rear torsion beam set up My goal, when funds allow, subject to test drive is a Mk3 TTS...possibly again mapped :)

I was split between the 3.2 v6 & the 2.0 TTS myself! I'd love to drive the v6, I've heard that the engine experience is better, but 272bhp from a 2.0 unit is incredible. The KO4 turbo really does make a difference - it's an easy car to drive around down, but when the revs build up over 2500 you really feel the pull and the boost! Definitely feel the pain with tax, mines £335 a year, which isn't the best but much more manageable. It just means that fruitier engines are more and more uneconomical to run, and means prices fall too... I've been having the s4/s5 4.2 v8 on my radar a while now and you can pick them up around the £5-£6k mark on the cheap - but then you add the fuel economy, maintenance and tax which rather ruins your bank account... If you're split between the standard mk2 tt and the tts, I'd definitely recommend going for the tts. They seem to be 2-3k dearer for similar mileage and age but I do think you get much more as a package - they seem better suited to higher power too!

@@jakubcynarski good to get a reply Jakub - shall try and get a TTS drive :) U will love the 3.2, drive a manual so U can exaggerate (use large throttle opening very quickly) the down shift blip - the sound will shock U! Re the S4 V8 - I seem to remember Clarkson salivating over that engine sound too... But don't they have engine weakness issues?

@@davidstuart4915absolutely! I’m going to try and see whether I can do a comparison video at some point with a 3.2. I’d also love to try out the TTRS. One thing that's easy to watch out for, if you notice the car getting extra damp inside this winter. Water likes to pool around the battery in the boot, keep it dry back there and most of the moisture will be gone (water likes to seep in through spoiler), I also got some humidity bags off amazon to keep the moisture down in the cabin. Works a charm.

I bought a 100K (The same TTS) for twice as much as you paid. So far I had to get a new spring at the front, and a new fuel injector. Luckily I have a decent specialist near me who also carbon cleaned the intakes and replaced the cam follower, as they were exposed when replacing the injector. All in all I've spent about £1600 in servicing and repairs since buying the car. But its worth it... The car is so fun to drive, they just don't make them like this anymore... (literally). It could be worse mate! you got a good deal on the car, left you some room for repairs and service jobs. Have fun

I have a non-resonated catback on mine (put on before i got it) and honestly it isnt worth it and it drones like f*ck. If you remap it you will get some pops and gurgles out of it and it's way cheaper than spunking silly money on a largely pointless exhuast and the car will absolutely fly. A remap can be as little as £250 vs. A grand for a cat-back. You will probably need to pocket some money for a new clutch though as having owned two of these now, if the clutch is old it wont like the torque increase. Get a sachs organic if you can. Pricey and the pedal will be super heavy but they are bullet proof and you'll never need to change it again. On the subject of what the car is worth, it's basically worth nothing so if you wanna mod it, mod it. You'll never get your money back but given that you're at the bottom end of the market anyway, who cares? 😅
@jakubcynarski
@jakubcynarski Ай бұрын
@dh1380 - love the comment, a Remap has crossed my mind... but it'll be something I want to revisit after taking the car on track first - with that said cheers for the clutch tip! Where value is concerned, it's pretty much the cheapest TTS you could buy that's still healthy and doesn't have a category so I've got a few exciting mods coming up :)

if it wasnt for naively optimistic people like you, no old cars would ever get sold. You have to be realistic and remember that 160,000 miles equates to 10 years on the road. thats 10 winters. there are plenty of components that are right at the end of their life now, and you can expect the most problems from any old audi between 160,000--180,000 miles. sensors and electrics particularly, will fail. those springs also will be at the end of their life.

I agree the standard sound isn’t too bad, there can be a bit of a burble on the overrun but for pops and bangs you’d have to remap. A cat back system wouldn’t do much for power either. I’ve had two of these and the first one had a thirst for Mobil 1 and constantly sooted exhausts, other one is much better, so be prepared for all of your hard work to be undone, also because of the valve system one side is always much worse than the other
