From the description: "Leontovych used a four note motif as an ostinato which was taken from an ancient pagan Ukrainian New Year's chant" What is the source for this claim that the carol is based on a pagan chant? Does the source reference primary material? It would be interesting if true, but most claims of pagan roots for modern customs are bogus, so I am skeptical of the assertion in the description.

The song is about the pagan New Year - with the first arrival of swallows - in the spring.

@@unoforteable The song is by Mykola Leontovych, from the early 20th century, and is about New Year. There's nothing Pagan or Christian about it. I am looking for primary source material that demonstrates this song, by Mykola Leontovych, has pagan origins. An assertion that it is "pagan" is not that. Is there anything written by Leontovych where he discusses taking his song from a pagan chant? Is there record of a melody or chant, before Leontovych's time, that can be deemed as the basis for his song? I've searched and haven't found any such sources.
