That has got to be the best example of not giving up on a play that I have ever seen. Yeah, Alabama was offsides on the play & Miami got the ball back plus 5 yards. BUT TEAGUE SAVED A TOUCHDOWN FROM BEING SCORED. AND the only TD Miami would score during this game was a kick return.

I remember that game. Eric Gregg was horrible behind the plate against the Braves. Biggest strike zone ever. I always figured he owed somebody some money. I'd like to see the view of the plate like today's game and see how far off the plate those pitches were.

Before trashing on umpires, remember there’s not anyone worse than him and of course Angel. Joe West is quite the controversial character but wasn’t as bad as Angel.

for all the complaints in this game, remember that the Braves never complained about the strike zone. It's been fans complaining. The NL strike zone in the 90s basically went to the outer edge of the inside line of the opposing batter's box

Worst part is, he was not consistent as I bet the ump likely would have called ball to the last swing and miss pitch if Chipper did not swing lol
@kennethdeanmiller73242 ай бұрын
Ya know, I never thought about it before but there at the end of the play you see a yellow flag fly. Now, if the only penalty is Alabama was offsides why is the flag coming at the end of the play. I mean obviously if Miami had scored they would have just declined the penalty. But imho Teague ran him down & took the ball away from him & he did it from directly behind him. No angle to try to cut him off. First he caught him, then he matched his strides so that when the ball came backwards in the receiver's stride he could grab it. A very excellent play!!! Showing awesome speed & concentration. Even though they gave Miami the ball back he still saved a touchdown. And if Miami had scored that could have changed the momentum of the game.

Easy to strike someone out when the plate is a mile wide. Gregg was horrible as many were in the 90s.

Hope this Umpire made enough money off this game to retire comfortably for the rest of his life. That was blatant. I don't know how Chipper Jones didn't take the bat to this umpires head after the strike 1 and 2 calls.

Eric Gregg will forever be remembered as a dishonest, embarrassment. To me, the most horrible part of this is that he had to have a reason. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to come up with the reason. He obviously has a "vested" interest in the outcome of the game. To have your life's work on display like this and to forever have a recording of your dishonesty has to be hard for his family to take. This isn't one bad call at a big moment. This is an hours long event where a man who clearly has money on the line is cheating on live TV and could care less. Literally witnessing a crime watching this.
