Your idea of the template for making the plates consistent is great. Gotta make me some of those. On the last plate I noticed when you were centering that the bottom had a wobble to it and then later when the air bubble became evident and a big bulge appeared on one side I thought it was scrap and you were wasting your time. But you proved me wrong. It takes real skill to correct that much of a problem. I'm impressed.

I've never watched one of your videos before, but I will be watching more in the future. Music is really hit and miss. If I notice the music, it's probably not great. I've stopped watching videos before because I cannot stand the music they've chosen. So, I'm fine with no music. Great video on how to throw tall pieces.

How do you know when it’s an air bubble or if it’s a chunk of dryer clay? When the pot got off center, I thought maybe it was some dryer clay that didn’t get blended in fully during your coning/centering process. It looks like poking it a bunch helped as it moved around. Was that because it had air trapped? Or did poking it help get water into that piece? Any info would be great! I had that happen with a bowl on Sunday and I just scrapped it and started over. It would be great if it’s possible to recover from that!
@ThePottersPeakАй бұрын
Most of the time, you can use your needle tool to poke it, and you'll really see it release, but if you poke it and it's hard, then you know that it might not be clay lol or it's a harder piece that is mixed in. If that's the case, then I would scrap it and restart. This bubble in my video was huge! Which really messed me up for a second but after poking it and making sure to compress the bubble away that helps, I also make sure to really regroup my rim so I'm in control even though the pot was going all wonky.
@HiveCreekFarmАй бұрын
@@ThePottersPeak Thank you!! It was cool to see how you were able to make the fix and regain control! Thank you for posting that!

No music vote here. If you have any hearing issues, it makes it impossible to hear narration. Not needed
@ingegerdandersson6963Ай бұрын
I think it is ok if you have music when you are not talking but it isn’t a must. But no musik when you are talking. If you want to sett a mood use music in an intro with some picture of stuff you done, where your studio is at or anything else you want to show to make sure people remember who you are.

No music!! 🎉

Would you recommend trimming the bottom/foot first before putting the ruffles around the rim? or will they keep their shape at leather hard when you trim the bottom?
@ThePottersPeakАй бұрын
This is actually a great question! I always alter the rim for pie pans right during the throwing process - it is still even because when we threw the piece we keep the symmetric shape. When we trim I use a foam bat to make sure I don't mess up the rim and trim the bottom away. I hope this makes since!

Hey Montana Girl, old Montana Guy here. Thanks for asking about the music. As a young kid I spent too many hours driving tractors without any kind of hearing protection and am paying for it now. Although I understood you perfectly well in this video if there had been music in the background it would have been another matter. So, my answer is no music or if you do please keep it low volume. BTW, like the way you kept the design simple on that pot. Hope you don't go too crazy with gaudy glazes. Keep it elegant.
@ThePottersPeakАй бұрын
Hey there from Montana!! Our studio is in Arizona now, but we are MT lovers for sure. That is where I called home my entire life until now. As I create videos, I am learning the music aspect. Its very much a balance that makes it challenging. As for glazes - I will defiantly be creating a glaze video to show you all how our glazes look. I am huge on the Italian Style of pottery.

Is there anyway you can keep the camera zoomed in on the pot? You are very beautiful, but it really doesn't help much to see you & or the background. It's more help if we can just see what you're doing closer up. Hope that didn't sound mean, If so sorry, I didn't mean it that way. It was just a suggestion for us older people that can't see too well...lol

What kind of clay are you using? I thought ovenware needed to be made with specific clay? I could be wrong lol but this is a lovely piece!
@ThePottersPeak2 ай бұрын
It does need to be made with the correct clay! I am using Speckled Buff by Laguna It is a cone 6 firing clay body which makes it oven safe with my glazes.

From the text on the bucket and on your cloths you are showing this mirrored and that make it hard to understand what hand you mean when you talk about left and right.
@ThePottersPeak2 ай бұрын
Everything in videos is always mirrored, so you really do want to keep that in mind while watching videos. My right hand has a hand tattoo on it (if that helps at all).

Wouldn't it make sense to cut the skirt around the bottom edge before doing the rim? Especially for the drying process..
@ThePottersPeak2 ай бұрын
I can understand where your coming from. I will create a video on how I trim these in the future. I don't cut mine while its wet like this for flat items. I like to trim that edge off once its leather hard.

Where do you buy the wooden mushroom’s? You need to list where to get the supplies so we can make them. If they are on Amazon you get a percentage for linking to them.

Height gauge? Ruler or calipers. Weight of clay?
@ThePottersPeak4 ай бұрын
These factors all depend on what you want it to look like. For this video I didn't take in the measurements - I just showed how to create it. You get to decide how much clay you would like to use or how wide you are wanting to get.

how many pounds of clay do you start with?

Its up to you! However big you would like your mug. Anywhere between 1lbs-2.5lbs is a great start.
