After the 5:20 mark those are known as "guard" rails, those within the running rails at most bridges, so to trap derailed wheels on the structure as it dragged along (until the train is stopped).

That thing you called the smokestack in the back is actually used as an anchor so it can hold it in place actually live in Houghton Michigan and I’ve jumped off of it in the summer

Wonder if there’s any chance of salvaging the superstructure...? But I’m guessing the state doesn’t wanna invest that kind of money into it.

Steam Railroading Institute informed me that C&NW 175 might come to Traverse City, Michigan, once the engine is fully restored because of 175 being smaller in size and weight than Pere Marquette 1225.
@stevensolway10546 жыл бұрын
Cnw #175 was to have been donated in 1957 to the National Railroad Museum here in Green Bay after the special excursion North to Three Lakes on the Antigo sub, but somehow, Mr. Clint Jones got it and kept it at his Keeweenaw Central RR excursion line on the ole Copper Range RR in Houghton/Hancock/Ripley area. If it would have come here to Green Bay, we would have had the last operating steamer of our cities biggest RR and it was to be used for other excursions, and then serviced at the Roundhouse at the yard at North Green Bay, and represent the 3 rrs' here. But something happened after 1957 and all the retired RR men have passed away. Will we ever know what???

Her new owners, Steam Railroading Institute, plan on restoring this locomotive within the next five years.

Good news: it will be restored! (hopefully). The Steam Railroading Institute, owner and operator of the world famous Pere Marquette 1225 (the real Polar Express), plan to move 175 to their facility this summer. It will be restored to operating condition and it will be a stablemate to the 1225.
