Tbf I’ve had various issues with mine in the year or so I’ve had them, and they’re mostly ironed out now by tweaking position and zones but still not completely perfect. But I have a newfound appreciation for how difficult this tech is to get right after getting some more basic mm wave sensors recently which are proving vary difficult to NOT trigger from an adjacent room even on their lowest sensitivity.

Smart homes are great when it works. Thankfully I have everything working in mine now. The last shit fight was my boiler thermostat stopped responding in HomeKit, I had to add it back in to HomeKit by resetting to factory. This also kicked in the heating and it wouldn’t add because HomeKit would suggest I already added the device despite deleting and factory resetting. I managed to get it back in by disconnecting the boiler from the power! 😂

Only by including something in the scene that is only on/off when the scene is active. Then you can check that device’s state in the automation (could even be a very specific light brightness that you check).

@@bungeholegymtestkitchen9888 you can go either way. Either use a spare plug as a “movie time” switch to check in the automation or start creating virtual switches in HomeBridge. You couldn't condense some of your automations into a single automation?
@HomeIsWhereTheSmartIs

I definitely thought about this, but ultimately that would only buy me more time, and cost me in real world use. As the best way to condense many of them would be to convert to shortcut and they run a fair bit slower, especially the more complex they get.

I suggest that closing your door should put down the expecting a delivery flag and lock the door, instead of after 90 seconds. Also, how did you do this?
@HomeIsWhereTheSmartIs
@HomeIsWhereTheSmartIs 4 ай бұрын
Not a bad idea, will have to see if I get a reliable trigger for “door closed” from the lock 🤔 I’m using Home Assistant for this particular automation, as I wanted the sign to switch as quick as possible. So when “visitor turned on” it sends a message via MQTT to the sign we built to change its message and unlock the door, then after a few more seconds it updates again with another message and then waits 90 seconds to re-lock.

@@Techlifeandmore Yeah you could achieve the same thing (if you can get a sign that supports it) using web hooks in a Shortcut style automation all within HomeKit. What I want In Apple Shortcuts first 2 Verifications 1st I am connected to a particular Bluetooth device, 2nd I am at a specific location then run a shortcut. For example it should test If I am connected to a specific car, near my home then open the Garage. Currently Apple Automation in Shortcuts only Allow 1 verification, I can Either test if I am connected to a specific device then run shortcut or it allows only to verify when I Arrive home then run shortcut, how to merge both and run the shortcut please help.
@HomeIsWhereTheSmartIs
@HomeIsWhereTheSmartIs 5 ай бұрын
I may follow up with a video on this. But for now what you will need to do is pick one of those trigger, and then manually check the other within the Shortcut. In the scenario you described (assuming you are still connected to your wifi when you get in the car) I would make the automation trigger on bluetooth connection to the car, then in the Shortcut run Get Network Name and check if it is the same as your home wifi and if so continue to do what you want. This is a MUCH quicker way of checking you are home than using Location checks.

Yeah I had the same thing, took me a long time to work out that I need to repeat and check in order to avoid a situation where you come and go in and out and then the lights turn off really quickly after leaving near the end of the initial timer (or have multiple effectively running the bg resulting in really weird behaviours). But not as big of an issue on the FP2 since it doesn’t need a timeout the same way motion sensors do 👍
