Hi I'm 15 my worst gameplay experience was I love board games but my friends usually never have time for them so whenever we're playing it gets cut short by someone leaving is there a fun board game that only takes a few minutes to play or any board games that you don't need 2 people to play (i know these things are big parts of board games but I miss being able to play them and not getting rushed)

I’m 15, my worst game experience would be a game where you can get stuck and have no chance of winning because of one move I think it could be better if there were more ways to win or possible actions to do in the game

Hi, I'm 30, my worst experience is one that has has reoccured and slightly put even me off the experience as a whole... People getting bored and quitting early whether it's from losing or game length. What would fix it... Maybe shorter games? Something that is a bit less predictable and more exciting?

13: my worst gaming experience was playing a strategy game and there were a bunch of little mini games(most of which were luck based) and it really took me out of the main strategy, I think if you changed them more to go along with the main gameplay of the game it would go better

Hi Elan! I'm 34. Worst game experience: my parents from Italy meeting my then boyfriend's parents from New Zealand for the first time (I lived in New Zealand and my parents came to visit). My parents are loud and aggressive hyper-competitive Italians, my ex's parents were incredibly kind and peaceful, 2 awkward hours of Monopoly later we all hated each other. What would have made it better: a game that made us all feel clever (codenames style) but also helped us cooperate. Possibly even limiting the language barrier!

I recently started using a thermal label printer and sticker labels and it has been a game changer. You are limited to black and white, but you can always color after if you need it or use colored labels. You can type directly the text on the printer app so you don't even have to pull out your computer to make a quick design.

This is great! When we created Death Charades we tried to adhere to similar principles, and it turns out that most people ignore our "gameplay" cards and treat the game just like regular old charades. However....... kids (under 16ish) who play the game play it over and over again to try to master their pantomimes, which has been fun to watch and learn from. Thanks for the great video!

Happy to be your 74th sub. I look forward to your future content. My 6 year old pumps out games consistently. He has a few pretty decent ones, and I think the algorithm picked up on me trying to move a couple to the next stage where they arent just marker and paper glued to cardboard. In other news the classic youtube signoff is something akin to "like and subscribe, and leave a comment to please the algorithm". Or something like that. A lot of creators feel it's cringy, but it's almost obligatory, so you really can't go wrong with your own spin on that, or literally just that. I've seen it gentle as "please consider subscribing" typed at the end of a video in all lowercase and even going too far with the"if you feel I've earned it your subscription would mean the world to me" type stuff. Alturnatively you can just end with a "signing off" a "till next time" or a "hope this helped". Then there's catchphrases and slogans, exit animations, outro reels the whole 9. Ultimately, my only qualification to advise you on anything is I watch waaay too much KZbin. Hope you have a good one man.

Great video! Thanks for sharing such great info based on your experience. I tried to make a Storm Area 51 card game and used the same blank cards for Kyles and Karens and you had to rescue/bust out the aliens. Some great practical advice here! I'm building a prototype for a card game right now, and will take your advice about using sticker paper and blank cards. I also agree that using card sleeves doesn't work well, because even the matte ones are so slippery that they make shuffling awkward. Your solution looks much better. Please keep the videos coming!

Thanks for the solid advice and for inspiring my own game design ambitions! Regarding the importance of Players vs Players, what do you think of collaborative games, where the players work together to win? In essence, they are Players vs Game, but are there ways to make them just as enticing for players to play them again?

I just left a comment on your other video, to me finding an entertaining gameplay loop is the biggest pitfall. How do you move forward when you know what you're doing is good but the repetitiveness feels bland? For instance, say that your players are attempting to create the highest tetramino stack and they continue to be the sigularity with a lucky base of cards
@ElanLee
@ElanLee Ай бұрын
Players will be motivated to repeat core gameplay if they 1) meet with early success and 2) see a clear path to mastery. If either of those elements is missing, you have to take a hard and difficult look at your fundamental premise. If you find yourself in that situation you MUST be brave! Start cutting your most precious elements even if it means scrapping the entire game! The only mistake you can make here is failing slowly.

There are solo boardgames! Some that are meant to be played together OR alone under the same rules (Thunderstone) some where solo games have slightly different rules (Sagrada) and even ones only meant to be solo (Final Girl, which admittedly I can't comment on much since I JUST got it for chistmas, but it's popular enough to have an expansion at least!) My hunch is that one, solo tends to be a little less robust than group games in the dual-use ones, and two, they're similar to video games but they're using the objects (usually decks of cards or dice) to act as basically physical programming. While it's definitely the minority of games and not what you'd do if you want to make a hit game, I just thought it was a small blind-spot in your definition haha.
@ElanLee

I heard you cant copyright board game mechanics. Is this a big challenge for game makers? I wouldnt be surprise if their were constant imitations of every game but it doesnt seem like a big problem.
@ElanLee
@ElanLee Ай бұрын
You can copyright one. There are a few examples. But defending them is a nightmare and if you don’t spend tons of money in enforcement then you’ve wasted your money on the copyright. Much easier to be first to market, establish yourself, and rely on the quality of your game to defend your position

This was a really cool and informative video! It's very interesting to see how a game has to work in a 'good' loop where you can improve as opposed to a loop based completely on literally rolling the dice. I'm also very excited for any future announcements of the exploding kittens board game!
