At least buses can use it and that's a public transport option. I live next to that one bus route that uses it and it's a nightmare especially on tube strikes.

Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels are going to be used simultaneously. Blackwall is just too old, too clogged and too small.

Sorry but this video is underwhelming. No maps or imagery of actual tunnel, just pointless graphics which has nothing to do with tunnel. The visualisation is awful.

I know this is a hot button issue for many people but from a lorry drivers point of view this is a must for London. The majority of HGV's (except double deckers) can go southbound with the 60's Blackwall tunnel (I think it's around 15'6''), but northbound with the Victorian tunnel is totally different. The height restriction is around 13ft, the majority of HGV's are higher than 13', where i work the lowest is 14ft. This means major detours if having to move north from the south, Either further into central london or out to the already heavily congested Dartford tunnels. The Sainsburys Thameside Distribution Centre is a prime example, around a 5-10 minute drive from the blackwall tunnel to the south, you can go south to it from the M11, but have to take detours if you need to be the north side of the river again.

I think cities need to go bike free - if the public transport is good enough and there's enough local facilities within walking distance, why bicycles? Cycling is the most anti social thing out there and bikes look ugly parked up against buildings and across public spaces. Don't get me started on lycra. Also, why do some people see a thing that wobbles along the side of a road as a 21st Century item - there's nothing sleek or modern about cycling.

I’m not sold on the queues to the black-wall tunnel being reduced, living locally I hope so, but doubt it…if anything it’s going to attract more traffic congestion, fumes…. A third additional north bound Blackwall tunnel should be built going right up to the north circular…it’s 24/7 carnage I don’t see this changing 😂

They are going to start charging tolls for both Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels. It remains to be seen how many people drive west to the Rotherhithe tunnel or Tower Bridge to avoid the tolls. The whole idea seems ridiculous at a time when we're supposed to be discouraging car use, and both Greenwich and Silvertown are well served by public transport.

@@jammin023 Your whole 'Discouraging Car Use' mantra is the kind of thing that's causing the rise of motor populism. Nowadays, I drive to work and I've every right to do so!

I think it will discourage car use because it will massively increase cross river bus connections in east London and both the Silvertown and Blackwall tunnels will be rolled.

Hi Geopolitical Analyst here that highway will never happen thanks to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Russia will become one of the most isolated nations in the world on the international stage besides a few exceptions where it will continue to do business with nations such as Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, UAE, Saudi Arabia, China, North Korea, India and some other various nations in Asia & Africa. Russia won't be able to afford some expensive project building a highway that will literally never be used. This project is dead like Russia's future as a "great" power.

When you look at the amazing places on earth…there is no way with current technology that humans could enjoy life on the moon or Mars…it’s totally absurd. We need to clean up the earth in the short term but it will be centuries before we could enjoy life off the earth. Focus our energies on the clean up while we develop technologies. Sooner or later the earth will experience catastrophes…for now we must understand how and mitigate the effects. Musk is for now one of the greatest polluters on earth despite his good intentions. Currently, Eva’s] are a dirty technology, to create solar and wind and mining for batteries are all dirty polluting technologies. Deep geothermal, carbon capture, alternative battery technologies are all needed. It takes years of driving an ev before the polluting effects of its creation and use of coal.and natural gas to make its electricity…still the norm…so currently it is not a true solution to concerns about climate change. I like Elon Musk, but I think he should also pursue all the methods to mitigate the harm occurring on earth. Going to Mars is in spring; it is unlikely it will be successful in our lifetimes…unfortunately. War pollutes and wastes resources; nuclear power is a good solution…but the public is frightened so much that it is the fear that controls our thinking and not science. For all the scientists pursuing a life to help solve problems, thank you so much.
