Is it not a new rule as well that a marriage certificate has to have a QR code? They are refusing my wife's visa application because our's is old and typed with typewriter before QR codes were even invented. Last year they were fine with the certificate. I guess this year she will not be allowed to visit. I hope that we will not get fined or put on a ban over a number of years.

Great video! Which camera did you use most while hiking El Yunque? Did it rain when you were there, and how did you protect your camera if you used the Sony? I own a Canon R6, and I am not sure if it would be a good idea to take it.
@TheWanderingHartz4 күн бұрын
Thanks! I used the Sony A7III with Tamron Lenses and a DJI Osmo action camera. The sony and tamron lenses are weather sealed and can handle mist and some rain drops. I would tuck my camera under my shirt or get to shelter when it rained. JUst wipe the water off asap. You can also use a gallon sized ziplock bag for the camera body and cut a lens hole too or buy a professional waterproof cover. Have a great trip! We loved hiking around there. Sure you can slow travel with pets. It may depending on where you are traveling. RVing across your home country should be pretty easy. It could be more difficult if your traveling abroad. It all depends on your situation and perhaps for how long you wish to slow travel for.

@TheWanderingHartz4 күн бұрын
Slow travel is literally traveling more slowly, but it is also about embracing the idea of fully immersing yourself in the places you visit. It's about taking the time to really connect with the local culture, and other people, rather than rushing from one tourist spot to the next. Most importantly for us, It's about living intentionally by savoring each moment. There are a lot of benefits and ways in which you can incorporate slow travel into your life. What do you do if it's your passport under 6 months. If you renew, will they just add time to your passport, and will you lose your ending time, if that makes sense.
@TheWanderingHartz12 күн бұрын
If your passport is going to expire in 6 months you should to renew it unless your trip is in the next month or two and only for a short duration. We recommend doing so 6 months before it expires or before a long (30 day or more) trip. Renewing will make it valid for another 10 years (U.S.). I hope that helps, be sure to check out the official page travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/have-passport.html (if its a U.S. passport).

I lived in Saranda for two months last year. More cons for me than pros; cons that I could not live with. (1) Can't flush toilet paper; this completely grossed me out. (2) Terrible, noisy, erratic drivers and traffic even during March and April, when I was there. (3) Wild dogs roamed the street at night, waking me up. I thought I was in a remake of Cujo. (4) The Call to Prayer 5 times a day. This seemed exotic at first, but I grew tired of it. (5) Gypsies. Really bad. One family's daughter sat outside my grocery store on a piece of cardboard, begging, often. I gave her food, but never money. Her mother would sit herself down on the main promenade along with an infant and another child, begging. It was horrible seeing another gypsy family member smacking a little boy in the face when he started to growl; literally growl. I think this child had been so abused he was acting like an animal; and this was in a cafe that is very close to where the busses drop you off when you arrive in town. Seeing children being forced to dumpster dive. Awful; I witnessed this a lot in Sarajevo, BiH, too. (6) The infrastructure is horrible. Example: sidewalks just . . . end. (7) There isn't much to do except look at the sea and drink, which isn't my thing. I did go on day trips to Gjirokaster and Blue Eye, etc. Butrint National Park is also close by. (8) I found groceries to be more expensive than eating out for some odd reason. PROS: I met some really nice people, Albanians, who I still stay in touch with. I like the proximity to Corfu, which is a Godsend compared to Saranda. Very economical rent during the off-season. I found a great pharmacist! I did need to see a dermatologist once, but there are no dermatologists in Saranda; you have to go to Tirana, five hours away by bus. And that is all.
@TheWanderingHartz14 күн бұрын
You raise some good ones, we have been here twice now and have to say points 3 & 5 have not been as disturbing this last time around. I would say the party boats music stands out much more than the call to prayer. Music blasting at 1 am is no fun!
@fr01036 күн бұрын
The cons were exactly the experiences I had when living and traveling in East Bloc, Poland, Ukraine, Moldova and Romania. I found that having a positive attitude was the best medicine. The pros: a very helpful and insightful review by Hartz. Learning now about Albania tax law requirements if / when applying for residency. Very reasonable overall compared to any other NATO or non-NATO country. Go local for real estate ASAP is always a good rule of thumb. One suggestion is you might consider as a courtesy, is to breakdown and provide a total for monthly alcohol consumption. In that way, those who don't drink can deduct the difference from your aggregate monthly total. Thank You Hartz for the post, invaluable info!
@TheWanderingHartz5 күн бұрын
Thanks for your your suggestions. Not sure we will be breaking down the alcohol out of dinning and groceries for public videos. Maybe we can do that for our Nomadic Abundance project, our full unabridged budget for two people. It comes down to time vs. earnings. This is our business and those videos dont make enough ad revenue for us at the moment it. Instead we plan to just give price examples and estimates going forward on public videos. That way people can do some simple maths to estimate their personal costs.

Newer subscriber here. Thank you so much for this information! DH and I are looking to retire later next year, sell everything and slow travel Europe in retirement for at least a few years. It seems there are numerous options for doing so. We’ve seen folks that get retirement-type visas as well as those that slow travel on tourist visas and utilize the Schengen Shuffle. Seems to reason that one might want to do the latter, see if overseas retirement is really their jam, find a place that appeals to them, then do the former. A lot of options, kind of overwhelming but nevertheless an exciting prospect. Thanks again and cheers! 🥂

And be sure to check BEFORE you leave to see if their sites and apps will still work with a vpn, and/or see if you can set the authentication up for email verification instead of a text or phone call.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Republic of Ireland allows 90 days but it can be based on how much time you have left from your 180 days spent in the UK. For instance, some people think they could spend 180 days in the UK then another 90 days in Ireland. This is not how it works. If you spent 150 days in the UK, you have 30 days of your 180 left. You can only spend that much time in Ireland, not a full 90. The same is true in reverse. If you spent 30 days in Ireland and then went to the UK, you can spend 150 days there, not 180. Also, you are at the mercy of immigration officers, and they are especially suspicious in the UK. You WILL NOT get away with spending 180 days every year in the UK, no matter what your visa allows. Upon your second or third attempt to do that, it becomes pretty obvious that you're trying to just live in the UK without becoming a resident. They can and will tell you to turn around and get a flight to somewhere else. You won't even be allowed to leave the airport.
@TheWanderingHartz19 күн бұрын
It seem you are confusing Northern Ireland (part of the United Kingdom) and the Republic of Ireland. Northern Ireland is not a part of the Republic of Ireland, they are under separate governance. Border agents everywhere can deny entry if you dont have valid documentation or or they deem you are living somewhere. Best to have proof of onward travel/return travel , valid reason to be there, etc.
@kellyphx19 күн бұрын
@@TheWanderingHartz No, I'm not confusing them. I know northern Ireland is part of the UK, that's why I specified Republic of Ireland. The travel agreement between ROI and UK is between them specifically and separate from any EU or Schengen rules. One absolutely cannot spend 180 days in the UK and then just pop over to ROI for another 90 days. And yes, border agents everywhere have the right to refuse entry. Too many people think their 90 (or 180) days is a RIGHT. It isn't. It is a privilege and not a guaranteed one.
@TheWanderingHartz19 күн бұрын
Interesting stuff. There is the CTA (common travel area) and how "deemed Leave" vs. arriving to the UK as a visitor for non-visa nationals. It looks confusing and as not as easy to explain the difference. here is a good read that explains it better than I ever can: www.lexology.com/library/detail.aspx?g=d60430a7-9704-4956-aa86-2c3f2e5c2234 TDLR They are not the same, however the concept of "deemed Leave" really only seems to pertain to someone moving about back and forth between Ireland and the UK. Six months for first visit from Ireland to Uk and 2 months second visit under "deemed Leave" concept, essentially a right of movement vs. being a visitor arriving in the UK on a tourist visa. I dont think this will be an issue for someone moving through Europe. This is really only going to affect those trying to live in the UK and Ireland year round. A visit to another country in-between solves the biggest issue with this concept. Thanks for the great question! I hope this helps others.

Hi there! I'm so glad your channel popped up in my feed. I've been slow traveling for two years. I'm currently in Serbia for three months and took a day trip to Hungary, lol, just last week. If I heard you correctly, can I go to Hungary on my 90th day here and stay for 6 months?
@TheWanderingHartz19 күн бұрын
No, as I understand it you can spend and additional 90 in Hungary according to the bilateral agreement if your are coming from another Schengen country. 180 days is if you went directly to Hungary and spend you 90 Schengen days and stayed an additional 90. You would still need to leave directly for Hungary to a third country since your Schengen time would have been exhausted (as you are still technically in the Schengen Area) you must leave the Schengen Area to rest your time. Of course always check with the consulate or appropriate authorities in advance to verify your plan. I hope that helps.
