That's so dry it's riding a lot like our courses here in California typically do.

Thank you for posting! My son Devin was in the 3/4 race. Yes, those lines were burned in by Wednesday practice; I have been there on a few Wednesdays. At 25:50 you are passing cycling legend Joe Saling , age 85! Joe “came out of retirement” and went to the nationals in Louisville, December 12, as did myself and my son. Working on a video now.

I was impressed with your first half a lap given you just finished the prior race!

You've now recorded two races that seem appealing to me for next year, so those promoters should thank you!

Nice! Now you just gotta set up your go pro with a radar traffic detector so you get a little warning when fast guys are going to pass you!

Okay, ALSO, for those playing along on the home game, that fast descending off-camber where I tri-podded to keep FROM DYING? I hit 25.9 mph. Hard-packed dusty "fun."

It's been great racing with you! Next season, let's do it again...but maybe we can find some extra form/fitness so we're, I don't know...mid-pack instead of back of the pack battlers!

Day 2's course seems to have a much fairer start than Day 1. Glad you are okay and still racing strong!

I find the NoHo start one of the most frustrating ones of the whole season. It's one of the reason I haven't done this one in a few years. I wish they would do what Rochester does on Day 2, and routing the field to do more or less a complete lap of the "lower deck" portion before the run up. I mean, if you aren't on the first couple of rows, it's mostly impossible to move up on the existing prologue loop.

So...uhm Marc here checking in. Thanks for posting this Patrick! I too wish I could have battled with you to the end. During pre-rides you showed me that you were quick on a technically demanding course. I made a bunch of little mistakes, but one MAJOR one that I remedied by also doing the cat 2/3/4 race later in the afternoon. I want to share here because I hope others might learn from my mistake. Now as preface, I'm a guy who has been known to race with 40psi in 40mm wide tires because I run inner tubes and I just don't want to flat out of a race. But this year I've been trying to be brave and experimenting with lower tire pressures and so far, it's worked out great. I've lowered them every race and felt good about the result. So... In search of more traction in the woods, I lowered my tire pressure to the lowest it's ever been. Which might have been okay, IF I had then gone out an pre-rode the course AT THAT PRESSURE. But like a rookie I just figured, drop a few PSI, race, no problem? Well when I got through the barnyard, there were a series of turns that transition between surfaces and the front end of my bike felt like it had a mind of it's own. It was truly terrible and I lost all confidence in my ability to race my bike. And then the crash...

I think for anyone watching this video who doesn't know the course, it's worth mentioning that this course indeed has a a lot of uphill, and/or "pedal haaaahhhdah" sections. The sand pits are obviously one of those spots, but less obvious is perhaps after the exit of sand pit 2, the course starts to drag upwards at a 2 to 3% incline, making sure that recovery from the effort you put in to get through the sand doesn't really come until you hit that tricky right hand off camber corner turn when there's a natural speed limit. Then off course, it slopes up a bit more heading towards pit one...and then...well you get the point. There's a lot of "secret climbing" on this course. Love it!

Next time I would love to hear you put a "voice over" track later next to your race and tell us how you were felling. Who was attacking, who were you passing. - Good ride.

Hello, vulture! I'm the rider featured in your wonderful and important KZbin video. If you must know publicly... no, my front wheel didn't "fly off by itself" or cause the crash. It's very clear in your opportunist video that my front wheel becomes dislodged by being run over by a rider *after* the crash. And, no, there was not a "touch of wheels"... the rider on my left contacted my handlebars, causing me to lose control and go down. Please remember, that is a real person in your video, who suffered real pain, spent real time in a hospital, and must pay real money for repairs. We are not pros. I do not do this for the entertainment of others. This is a fun hobby, and we're in a considerate, supportive, and fun-loving racing community -- no one expects that a simple accident in the park at 6AM Sunday morning would lead to being featured in a sorry, "I hope this goes viral" Go Pro video. Anyways, carry on, best of luck with your season, and stay safe! :)

+Cody Corona Posted the video thinking it might be of interest to others in the race. I know that I wanted to go back and see "what just happened?!" and figured that others involved might appreciate being able to do the same. Not trying to disrespect you, make light of, or profit from your mishap. I did not see you at the ambulance afterwards and given how you rolled I assumed you were not seriously injured. Hope I am not mistaken about that. Thanks for clarifying what happened. Hope you heal up fast.

Looks like his front wheel just came flying off. It didn't look like he touch anyone.
