You can't believe you are doing it? It wouldn't be Tales of the Trails if you didn't do it. What boot were you using over your neoprene socks? Did you take them off for the water crossings?
@TolkienLewis Жыл бұрын
Hi, John! Thanks for your kind words. I left my hiking boots at camp and set out in my Teva’s with the neoprene socks. Those shoes are comfortable and have great traction. Plus, the toes are enclosed. They were perfect for the water and short sections of climbing.

There's actually a myth about Amazon Pink River Dolphins in which they can shapeshift into attractive men (usually wearing white suits and fedora hats) to seduce women. They are also skilled sorcerers as well. 🧜♂️🐬

Our first ascent to the top of Telescope Peak was February, 1972. We used 12 point salewa adjustable Crampons and a aluminum Ice axe. No need for rope. Very icy and windy on the final trek up to the summit. Steep slopes on both sides up the final leg. Then the proverbial signing of the climbers log on the summit. It was windy and cold. Our thermostat read minus -10 F with the wind chill factoring in. So cold that one of our polaroid cameras froze up the shutter mechanism. Great views of Death Valley Below. Subsequently through the years we climbed Telescope Peak three more times, twice in the winter and one in the spring. Back in those days the Wildrose Ranger station was still occupied, but closed during the heavy winter period. I remember also signing in at the Wildrose Station as a courtesy for the Ranger that we were heading up the road to hike up to Telescope Peak.

Wow, what an amazing experience! I can’t imagine being up there with that wind chill factor. I’m glad it was much warmer when my friends and I went. It’s such a beautiful mountain and I’m glad it hasn’t become super crowded. At least it wasn’t when I went in 2014. Thanks for sharing your story. Happy trails!

Thanks for another great video! I haven't watched the whole thing yet, but how long did it take to drive the whole thing? I guess the video is sped up because I thought I heard it can take 3 hours to drive it?

Yes, the video is minimally edited. I think it did take us 3-4 hours to drive the whole thing because we made several stops along the way to explore and take pictures.

Hi, Glenn! Thanks for checking out the video. I thought this was high definition? I shot it on a GoPro Hero 9, which I think shoots in 4k. But KZbin may not be able to process that so it’s most likely in 1080p.
