Thanks for honoring a Puerto Rican surfer. I came to central Florida from Puerto Rico when I was 4 and still surf. I attended a party at the restaurant right next to your shop with Donna McNulty when one of the beach boys sang there.

Lived in Cocoa Beach in the mid 1960's - loved it. I was there when Cocoa Beach High School was just built. Loved living there as a teenager. I had a Dewey Weber surfboard - have no idea where I got it because I was dirt poor... I don't want to speculate how I got it. But man oh man, I would love to relive those years.

Cool video! I lived across the street from Tom near the beach in Carlsbad, CA 1975-1976. Had many good conversations with him covering many different topics during that period. I was young guy in college at the time. He was a very intelligent guy and definitely a surf legend. I lost touch with him since then but was excited to find out he was going to be featured at the California Surf Museum Gala a few years ago and I purchased a ticket in hopes of seeing him again. Unfortunately, he passed away before the event, but I did have wonderful extended conversation with his son Sol.

Curious if anyone has an idea of what board he’s riding? Maybe a “thin man” 9’ egg of his own making?
@BalsaBill Жыл бұрын
Read the description. I tell you what boards he was riding. He had his gym bag full of fins too.

I grew up close to the Point and would see Skip out there all the time. I used to come in just to watch him surf. 55 years later I still have specific images in my mind of him surfing one of his eggs on this one insanely great day at the Point when it was glassy and shoulder to a foot or so overhead. The place was packed but Skip could get every wave he wanted. P.S. Most if not all of these waves are of Skip surfing the cove and not the Point.

Your an inspiration! Did you glassed the board or just applied some monocoat oil or something for sealant? Mahalo!

It's glassed. Just like a foam board.

Very cool video Bill. I was around in those days and every day seemed to have something interesting and exciting going on. I can't remember everyone's name in the video but I did see Reed Mayne and I think his brother whos name escapes me now, Henry Hester, Bill Andrews, possibly Gary Keating and Tim Lynch. The Shores had an amazing pool of talent, much of San Diego did in fact. Thank you
