This run is *technically* the speedrun world record for moderate permadeath (Ellie%, Abby% and Whole Game). Speedrun.com records all difficulties other than grounded in a single category - standard permadeath - however it lists your runs on different difficulties separately rather than having the fastest time render the others obsolete. As nobody else has run moderate, mine is the record for this difficulty.

if youre still on the fence after watching this on whether this would be a valid piece of media to consider to clarify this is mainly for those who have hundreds of hours in the last of us remember the hospital, remember how ruthless joel was leading up the the surgical room... and you think joel would have been better off dodging and crawling through that, complete 180 and i have no doubt that would have angered a lot of of people besides, wish all you want if that doesnt convice you becuase as the guy said.. game engine wasnt the same so it just wasnt possible

@AKblackandredYT I know and thanks! At that moment it just sounded risky to tilt my analogue stick and I didn't even now for how much should I tilt it. I tried it later and it actually worked multiple times. I wasn't angry or sad because trough your videos I learnt pretty crazy strategies. Also can I load back my game on different file when I'm doing premadeath to try encounter before doing it in perma. Then after I tried it load my premadeath playtrough? Still big thanks for these videos, may your survival be long!
@AKblackandredYT8 күн бұрын
Yeah, once you practice it it's actually fairly straightforward. Just be aware it doesn't work on the beams in the burning cabin at the end of Abby Day 3 - I've covered the alternate strategy for balancing there in the video on The Escape. You can physically make an autosave backup if you exit permadeath in a safe area and load a different file. But if you want the run verified in the Challenge Runs Discord then mid-run practice isn't allowed so I'd get the practice done before you start a run.

This was enjoyable to watch. I got by somehow using the Anthony Caliber speedrun strats. Btw, is Grounded+ harder than Grounded NG, and how? I’ve only ever played Grounded NG a few times - but the game warns you that Grounded+ is harder? Thx 🙏
@AKblackandredYT9 күн бұрын
I didn't personally find NG+ harder than NG, but I don't know if that's just cause you can take your upgrades and supplies in for an advantage. It didn't feel different in any significant way.
@workoutfanatic78738 күн бұрын
@ Thanks AK, I read all sorts of speculation on Reddit, like easier alerts, better enemy accuracy, even less resources. But having just done Grounded+ up to TV station, I think you are ultimately correct. Feels fine, except you don’t get a free trapmine - not a huge loss lol. GGs!
@AKblackandredYT8 күн бұрын
Yeah. If you have the double trapmine crafting upgrade, that free trapmine shouldn't be a big loss. Same with the stun bomb.

Thanks for the series. I’ve seen speed runners do some crazy risky strats for this part with similar technique of using arrows and silenced bullets to lure enemies away. Not sure how exactly to describe but the first part was stealth and then going loud killing with guns. Second part was a fast sprint with smoke through to the end taking intentional damage.

Chapter 18: The Marina (Key Strategies) In this chapter, Abby must sneak through the marina to reach the boat and avoid WLF soldiers. Here’s how to navigate it: 1. Entering the Marina Stay low and hidden behind cover. Use tall grass, vehicles, and walls to stay out of sight. Take out enemies stealthily if needed, but avoid engaging large groups. Keep track of guard patrol routes-this section has multiple soldiers who walk predictable patterns. 2. The Guarded Area (Snipers and Patrols) Stay out of the sniper’s line of sight: Use cover (containers, walls) to avoid getting hit. Throw bottles or bricks to distract guards or create openings. Use Abby’s ability to craft pipe bombs if absolutely necessary to clear clustered enemies. 3. Boarding the Boat The final stretch involves sneaking onto the boat while avoiding guards. This part requires perfect timing. Wait for guards to move to the far end of the area before advancing. Use smoke bombs or distractions if you get spotted. Running to the boat is sometimes your best option if things go south. 4. Conserving Resources Save your ammo and health kits for emergencies-this chapter doesn’t require much combat if played stealthily. Always loot dead guards for supplies before advancing. Additional Tips: Restart Checkpoints: If things go poorly, don’t hesitate to restart and try again. On Grounded, mastering the area layout and enemy positions is key. Listen for Dialogue: Enemies often talk to each other, giving away their positions or plans. Play Methodically: Rushing will get you killed quickly. Think of this mode as a puzzle-you’re solving the enemy placements.

@santoro2701 the video is my guide to this part. It talks about the route to take to safely run through the level as there's not much to loot or pick up that's worth doing a slower strat for.
@santoro270113 күн бұрын
@@AKblackandredYT Thanks for clarifying! That makes a lot of sense. It’s definitely helpful to know that a faster route works best here, especially with limited loot making slower strategies less rewarding. I’m actually waiting for the PC version since I don’t have the console to play the game yet, but I’ve been diving into guides and strategies in the meantime. Appreciate you sharing your expertise!

It feels appropriate that Joel, a relatively strong man who nonetheless was in his 50s even in Part 1, has the most... I guess "inertia" to his fighting style. He is a brick wall that can bury single targets in melee but his age and the years of wear and tear on his body makes it hard for him to pivot against multiple targets or dodge if something is already coming at him. He simply isn't able to summon as much finesse in melee as younger combatants like Abby or Ellie, so he compensates by aggressively throwing his raw heft at whatever he's facing to try and run them down before they can fight back.

I really appreciate for Abby’s section that sprinting past enemies tends to work well and being able to save ammo. Is there a specific ammo count to hit for facing off against the rat king?

I looked into the whole lore of the Last of Us Part 2. From what I could gather of the whole story of the game, Isaac allowed Abby to go to Jackson to kill Joel that wasn't even a threat to the WLF to begin with. Abby just wanted to kill Joel in revenge for murdering her father while he saved Ellie from the hospital in the first game, which also robbed a chance for a cure to the Cordyceps in Abby's eyes. I did hate Abby at first for killing Joel in Part 2, but that changed when I realized it was Issac who allowed her to go to Jackson in the first place, and also killed the Seraphites' prophet that started the WLF's war with the Scars in Seattle. Abby just wanted retribution for her father, no more than Ellie wanted the same after the former murdered Joel, because both were suffering from PTSD after the deaths of their respective fathers. Isaac didn't care about Abby's PTSD or the cause of it. He just allowed her to go to Jackson both in retribution of the smuggler who eliminated the chance of a cure and to eliminate a potential threat to the WLF during their war with the Seraphites. And for that, I hate Isaac and am equally satisfied that he got what he got what he deserved for his actions as a war criminal in the apocalypse.

I'm so confused regarding the dumping of 'excess' ammo before the bloater fight. I get that after the bloater fight the loadout will be fixed, but why limit how much ammo you have for the bloater fight? 30:58
@AKblackandredYT21 күн бұрын
It's to dictate what ammo is dropped in the arcade before the fight. Going in with 2 shotgun and 1 revolver, the game will give you drops so you end up with 6 shotgun, 6 revolver, and 1 pistol. The revolver and shotgun are enough to take out the bloater, so if you don't organically have enough then dumping ammo will give you those drops to ensure you get it.

I always assumed that there was some sort of military leadership in fedra, probably somewhere isolated and safe like an island, aircraft carrier, or even an underground bunker. It would be comprised of high ranking military members deemed too important to risk possible infection. And its wishful thinking but they would most likely be sharing the bunker with the president although martial law would still be in effect so he wouldnt have much power, but id imagine their main goal besides a cure would be to keep the president alive and safe to ensure continuity of government. But take into account that the last of us takes place 20+ years after the outbreak, they could have disbanded or died. Its very possible they are still around but nowhere near what they would have been on outbreak day.

Love the way you did Eastbrook! I did the Speedrun strat and got it after 4-5 tries. Downside is - with the last door lady, I grabbed instead instant melee, so my hammer is -2 hits (is there a way to find out your melee “health” on Grounded? I would expect not) Gonna try your strat. Speedrun strat is to prone dive past the first wave, jog-walk up the first vault, trying to avoid as much damage, and then circling around the extra guys (who are not supposed to alert until they hit a certain mark, according to a speedrun master in tutorial). HOWEVER, I find that the extra group can and will alert early - based on factors I have no idea of.
