Enjoy the con!!! I had the opportunity to go back in 21’ and I actually really enjoyed it. I thought the selection of vendors wasn’t bad for as large of a con as it was (a lot of them have gotten more away from books and gone towards the anime/craft side of things). Does anyone still have FOMO for comics these days? The whole atmosphere around the hobby has fallen flat over the last two years. Back when you had FOMO, there was a general feeling of excitement and enthusiasm. Now? There are all kinds of nice Doom books, for example, sitting at fair prices in my LCS. I don't think too many folks are afraid of missing out on anything comic-related now.
@TT-fq7pl
@TT-fq7pl 14 күн бұрын
@@chi-tn That's an interesting observation. And more evidence (if any is needed) that you should only buy comics if you like owning own (or just enjoy searching for them). I sold my childhood collection during the pandemic. Had my LCS send the keys away for grading, and over a couple of years got them back and sold them to the LCS at 40% FMV (a much greater return than what I paid for them, but that was over 40 years ago!). The thing is, being around a comic shop and watching YT videos got me nostalgic, so I've been buying vintage comics again. Do I expect what I buy today to be worth more in twenty years? Frankly, no. Or at least not much more valuable. But it's a fun and harmless diversion from reality. Worth the expenditure for me. However, if you are concerned about value, then I think you probably should sell sooner rather than later. Not that you asked! Sorry about that.

I have sent 7 book to CGC. The last submission was 5 books. 2 came back with Mechanical Errors because double cover was not noted or newsstand. I sent them back to get fixed. When the books came back this time. The top back cover on both books were torn and folded down. One book was an 8.0 the other was a 6.0. However with the damage they are in reality much lower grades now.

100 percent agree on the inner jiggling in the case. I have noticed this on many slabs in the past and it cannot be good for preserving the comic. I have also noticed corner damage from the way the corners of the inner well are designed. I have had hundreds slabbed in the past but will hold off until they fix these issues (including warped inner wells!). Thanks for your thoughts!

You better not take CSS 17 off that list! It's such a great cover. I'd put it right behind CSS 22 in the run. Most would say issue 20 is second. I like 20, but personally, 17 beats it.

Multiple Inner Well problems. This is definitely a thing and it dates to before 2024 and it is not good. But above all the question remains--with normal handling (shipping, picking up off a shelf, but not actively shaking it), is the book harmed? If not, then it is bad but not terrible. On the other hand, perhaps it is related to the warped inner well problem? (CGC 40+ page chat in forums "Is anyone else getting books back with warped inner wells?"). Arguably, the problems date to the same period (beginning in 2023?) and both involve the inner well. There, some people say that the warping of the book as it sits in a concave warped inner well may not be harming the books (a little hard to believe, especially over extended time periods), but everyone seems to agree that it is harming the presentation of the books in the slabs by highlighting bends and ticks.

What's your opinion about CGC's pressing service? I only have a small quantity of books that are worth grading, and I could theoretically save some $ by getting CGC themselves to press and grade my books at the same time, rather than having to ship the whole lot to a third part cleaner/presser, and only then resending them to CGC for grading.... I don't have any super valuable books, just a few 'decent' copper age books so nothing worth thousands, so I'm trying to keep the costs low so I can at least make a little profit if/when I decided to sell them.
@Reapertate728
@Reapertate728 Ай бұрын
I very rarely use it. I do, however, have two out right now for pressing. Before that, I had one and that was 7 years ago. When I get those books back, I can give you a better idea of what I think when it comes to their service. I heard good and bad, but we shall see. Thanks for watching!

Yes I 💯 agree with you they shouldn’t be loose like that at some point we have to stop putting up with their lack of care and stop doing business with them I thought you also had warped inner wells that’s also been an issue CGC has been given people a difficult time with there’s a video by Make room Collectables he sent some books back explains his situation and he got more warped inner wells back when he unboxed them I’m done currently sending to CGC..I’ll use CBCS if I want grading they don’t have newton ring issues something CGC also refuses to solve And companies like Comic Capsule or those magnetic cases with UV protection are better alternatives instead of grading especially since Comic Capsule now has a Silver Age version and I’m sure they’ll have a golden age version next CGC has also stated grading is subjective and I get that if we’re looking at raw books on eBay or at the comic shops but I don’t understand like you said why a book can have stains and have two different grades I bought a 3rd appearance of Harley Quinn for $20 it came back a 9.2 CBCS noted it had a stain on the back cover and a TMNT issue 10 I bought listed as NM had staple rust and got a 8.0 now I don’t know how NM that book was without that rust but if it was a 9.2-9.6 that rust hits the grade a lot

not 100% sure but I remember they would have a small plastic stabilizer in each corner.From your video it looks like they removed them and instead have the inner plastic wrap cover?Which is funny because you talk about staining issues.It looks like they added the inner wrap to protect from further staining but were cheap and took out the stabilizers so there not adding another step on there end.Maybe they think the inner wrap would protect from the jiggling?

In the old slabs the label was a part of the inner well. In newer slabs they have seperated them. I would assume to cut costs perhaps making them easier to reslab, which made them easier to tamper with.

That's disgusting, disreputable production quality from that company. I bought 10+ slabs for 6$ just to test the quality.
