The problem is the phone cannot be balanced as the weight is too far from the centre of gravity, this gimble was made for smaller lighter phones. Change the phone's orientation and try to get the phone more centralised. The violent overcorrections are the gimble trying to correct the massive weight offset.

i suggest try to jump the voltage on cells. do this by plug and unplug the charger over and over until the cells get enough jump to be detected and balanced by it.
