I call him the only one.... There will never be another player that changed the game of hockey like he did.... Onto bad knees as we all know... You'll never see a defenseman win the scoring title... the greatest person to ever put on a pair of skates.❤❤

I'm a NY Ranger fan, but I also enjoyed seeing Bobby Orr. He was awesome to see. Too many times, I saw him, single handedly skate pass the team. That's how great he was.
@msmith5121Ай бұрын
I was blessed to be able to watch Bobby's entire career as a young teenager in central Mass.....he is the greatest player that will ever play hockey and a greater human being. People talk about records that will never be broken in sports but for some reason Bobby is never mentioned in those conversations. But, what he did when he won all four major awards in hockey as a defenseman will never happen again. Winning the scoring title in the NHL and winning the best defenseman award the same year, which he did twice, will also never happen again. That feat just doesn't even make any logical sense yet that's what he did. I think Bobby Clark put it best when he said after seeing Bobby play, "he needs to be in one league higher than this one...". He also said Bobby Orr is what what all hockey players everywhere should strive to be like both on and off the ice. He wasn't flashy...he didn't need to be....he was just so much better than everyone else and still would be today.

The man is talented, no arguing it. The best of his time... But, am I the only one who thinks the speed and intensity of today's game is on a much higher level?
@nthdegree12694 күн бұрын
No one comes close. Don't forget, some of the rule changes and higher tech on the skates has opened up the speed of the game, but Bobby Orr was (on the old skates) an extremely fast player, who often had to play with an injured knee that hampered him. He could glide faster than most players could skate full out and he would slow the game down (Kind of like Mario Lemieux would do later). 12 knee surgeries. He was damaged and still at times showed an almost unreal speed and acceleration. He could play defense, he could even play goal and often made some of the most incredible saves when the goalie failed. Him and Gretzky are the only players I can think of who knew where everyone was and will be on the ice 90% of the time. Sure the game changed, but you take a player like that and give him the new skates and 2 healthy legs, the speed whille fast is not something a player who has that type of hand eye would have a problem adjusting. He is the greatest 2 way player of all time. His career cut short due to the unfortunate knee injuries.

How does a DEFENSEMAN win scoring titles?! Say Gretzky was the "greatest player ever", but if you were to compare greatness based on a defense, offense and mileage throughout an entire game, Bobby Orr was the best for his relatively short career. Its as if he could play against an entire team all by himself if he had to! He could score the goals, defend the endzone and even save the shots kn the net!

This was my era as a kid playing hockey. We were from the projects (Orient Heights) but were better than the kids on the north shore and south shore. We moved away and brought that Boston style of play with us and we always were picked first when playing street hockey or ice hockey. I had Orr's book Orr on Ice and his LP The two sides of Bobby Orr. Both autographed. My brother played net so he would be Gerry Cheevers I was defense so I would be Bobby Orr.
