Just a tip for others, doing a patch like that on an inflatable it helps to cut the slit a little wider so the patches stick to each other and a couple small radiuses at the ends of the slice to stop the cut from growing, also definitely should have used two boards and some clamps or even parked your jeep on it sandwiched with some boards and let it sit for a day or so. 36 grit or a wire wheel and alcohol for prep. I also like to use a sanding disc on a grinder to feather the outer 3/16" or so edge of the outer patch and brush glue over that also, helps keep the edges from peeling over time. What you did should work fine, those extra steps give more piece of mind.

Thanks for the info. Held up for 6 months of absolutely ripping it in Mexico and never even pulled up a corner. Those 2 patches seem to be on there until this rubber boat gives out!

Choosing the Gemini was a smart move. It's an excellent catamaran and it's obvious they did their homework. That said, it's more of a coastal cruiser and island hopper than a live-aboard blue water boat. Just remember. Bigger boat, bigger expenses. Good luck and happy sailing.

Definitely agree. It’s a fantastic boat especially for the price. And at the time of purchase coastal cruising was all we wanted to do. Didn’t go with a larger cat at the time because 2 diesel engines is 2 to maintain haha.

I'm working on convincing my wife to live this way, starting with sailing on Polish lakes, planning the next step in the Mediterranean using a boat charter. You know, step by step ;-) She is a girl from the mountains, so... she can't swim, she was always afraid of water, but the first reactions to a vacation on the houseboat are promising... She want's more. Swimming lessons means, she takes it seriously... Based on your experience, is such a life possible for a 3-person family with a monthly budget of 2.5k EUR on a fixed income? Maybe something more from remote work, if something comes along.

Awesome! We started sailing on a Catalina 30 in the harbor of San Diego California before working up the courage to get the new boat and head out. Mexico is cheap enough to make it work on a budget. Just all depends on your current lifestyle and how big of a change it will be. If the wind is blowing it’s free but you still need to find food just like living in a house. Boat maintenance and diesel fuel can be the biggest expense.

Great video! My wife and I retired and this is our first sailing season since, but a shoulder injury will be keeping us at the dock this year. So, thanks for taking the time to put these videos together. We too have land-based adventures with our travel trailer and have been enjoying land-camping this summer while our boat floats at the marina!! Here’s hoping our paths eventually cross! Safe travels!

"Who needs this? I got Mexico" I'm Living right and the fishin's good So I am an old Baja, Mexico. Started in the lat 70's/80's. I learned something there back then. It has not changed one bit. You need to learn it. Makes a much better vacation for you. Here it is: #1 You ain't in charge ........ Mexico is. The more you try to make things happen by YOUR Schedule in Mexico, the less it will happen that way, and the crazier it will make you. Every time you try to "fix something" the more you will find you have to back up 2 steps and fix something else first. #2 9:.00 am can actually be a good time to have a cold beer. Ricardo

The higher bridgedeck will only eliminate that hull slap at anchor. I Sailed/crewed on a St. FRANCIS 50' cat from Capetown to Annapolis in 2016. Anytime we had wind/swell on the beam, we had slap and sometimes hard enough to raise you out of your bunk.
@theadventuresons1223
@theadventuresons1223 3 ай бұрын
I know it’s common on all cats but the Gemini only sits less than 1 foot off the water. So pretty much any swell it slaps. But at anchor is by far the most frustrating part.

Hull slap can be dealt with. You buy a beach inflatable like a raft or a small boat and you put it under the bow at night with a tether just long enough for it to float just under the lower part of the bridge deck and leave it tied, it will block the water and provide a cushion so no more hull slap. Takes only a few minutes to put in place and remove.

@theadventuresons1223
@theadventuresons1223 6 ай бұрын
From my understanding they are very similar and sometimes term used interchangeably. Ours had a tag on the sail that said “code 0” so I tend to refer it as such. But it’s a large light wind sail best for 60-120 angles 12knts or lighter. We use it for downwind use wing on wing also but roll it back up if winds get above 12knts.
