Mark is constrained by the time allotted so he had to steer the Q and A. That was understandable, but the summary reflection of what Bryson has done from a professional deep in the weeds filling in what others have said was worth the time to listen. The discipline Bryson has to be open minded and follow through is next level. As Mark said if Bryson attains his goal of wedge accuracy coupled with putting speed, he will be near the holy grail most pros yearn for. It has always been my take that the pros put the time in on the range to maintain that timing and make sure the swing is routine. Fortunately Bryson is young, committed, disciplined, and aware of the impact the fans have on his energy and positivity to win. Golf will no doubt benefit and so will youngsters when they hit their first shot in the sweet spot and get hooked. Thank you.

Influencers are the John D Rockerfellers of our age. Theyre all very brand conscious. Is this good? I dont know but how does listening anyway actually help your short game? It probably requires a bad case of the shanks to overcome the illusion of infusionary influence.

What a frustrating interview, Mark you are lovely, but WHY ON EARTH would you cut off every detailed answer to interject some irrelevant anecdote... Eg. Guy is answering a question listing the 5 key elements of gaining speed and you break it up to tell a story about "Dottie" commenting on his performance at the Colonial... Are you kidding me! No one cares... Grrr so frustrating....

@@MarkImmelman I think that we can only get so much from watching Tour players and to a large degree they reinforce bad habits and tendencies. Because they are good despite their bad habits, and you often can't see the whole ball flight in these close-ups. And you can't know the intended shot vs the actual shot. What I see more are the differences between players and the corresponding derivative "tips" from the YT crowd. So these are useful...but of limited use. Some people make too much of Tour player swings. Every now and then I see an amateur video like this which is interesting. But in the long run there are a lot of good players who are not on Tour. A lot of good swing-tips that aren't being used by good players. Every so often a useful tip or swing video with an interesting result But all that is still miles away from playing a good round. Did you ever notice that to play scratch golf "in regulation" you take the same number of putts as non-putts? 72 shots per round. Half are putts assuming 2 putts per hole. So for every par-3 you need a par-5. If you have 2 par-3s and par-5s on each side that means 36 putts but only 16 drives with the remaining 16 shots either irons or woods... So your longest possible hole that you can par involves a 3-wood or long iron, a chip and two putts. Possibly no chip or a chip and one putt. So for a par-3 you are limited by your ability to get on the green in at most two shots while sinking the putt. For a par 5 that would be 4 shots plus the one putt. Basically divide the yardage by (par -1) and get within tap-in distance. So for a 700 yd par-5, 500 yd par-4 or 300 yd par 3, you just need to clear the tee carry and divide the remaining distance by (par-2) strokes. So why is golf hard? Because we make it hard by trying to hit our clubs out to unrealistic and unnecessary distances. We always try to play as long of a shot as possible...and we miss most of those shots. Surprisingly this adds another 15-40 strokes to our score. Then we wonder why we are unhappy with our game. Even shooting between 81 and 90 we have to miss half of our putts. Nobody is going to 1- putt 18 holes. Realistically we should be happy just to break 100.

@@MarkImmelman I'm in debt to you because you inadvertently helped me to solve a problem about golf which has been bothering me for 30 years now. I wrote it all out in a long reply to this but I don't see it...oh well. The summary is what is important. Golfers need to stop making golf hard. Play by a few simple rules #1 Get on the green as close to the pin as necessary to 1-putt the hole. #2 divide the remaining shots equally, adjusting the tee shot, the approach shot and the possible intermediate shot to clear the tee-carry and lateral hazards. #3 Keep the ball in play, put the approach on the pin and sink the 1-putt. That will get you birdies on the 4 par-3s and 14 pars for a 68. Even if you 2-putt every hole that is only an 86. If you 3-putt 14 holes & 2-putt 4 that is 100. So the most that anyone should shoot is a 104, mixing 3 putts per hole between chips and putts. No chips and 1 putt per hole= 68 1 chip and 3 putts per hole = 104. Oddly the difference is 36 strokes.

I like what she said about knowing that a player should know how many bad shots per round in average will have and instead of thinking about the bad shot in a negative way, that is one out of the way and keep on playing. Remember reading about golf history and love Bobby Jones history a lot. Walter Hagen said that he accepted the fact that 3 or so a round he would hit a very poor shot per The Story of American Golf by H Warren. As a result, he was able to forget about a bad shot almost instantly.

Great discussion - a big theme I take from these sports psychologists: a bit like your swing during your round, you need the tools to fix your mood and thoughts during a round. It seems to me that the only thing separating the top pros must be their mental games - they all hit the ball so, so beautifully 🎉🎉 Thanks Mark and Julie 😊
