Not sure how I stumbled upon your channel but just wanted to say congrats! I was a non-traditional med school applicant as well, with a weak GPA. I got zero interviews the first time I applied to med schools. I went to Georgetown's SMP (class of 2016) and I'm now starting my first attending job out of residency! Best of luck with the rest of your journey in medicine!

Thanks so much for sharing! Great to hear about the successes of fellow SMP students. Best of luck at your first attending job!

Can you comment on the level of the difficulty of the SMP at G town? Because a lot of things online say it is extremely difficult to get an 3.5 gpa or higher in the program. Since the curve is set by Gtown med students
@futuredoctorbri3 ай бұрын
It is definitely very difficult, but not impossible. It is mostly medical level courses where you have to do notably better than the medical student average in order to earn A's. I do however think medical schools tend to understand this and I don't think SMP gpas are considered quite as stringently as undergrad gpas.

What is a nontraditional applicant?
@futuredoctorbri5 ай бұрын
A nontraditional applicant is someone who doesn't go right through from undergrad to medical school, but takes gap years, or has to apply more than once. I think it's sort of being used to describe underrepresented applicants to an extent now too, but mostly just means taking gap years.

What are your stats? What do you need to be accepted into the SMP? I am trying to attend GU's SMP program for the Fall of 2025 and I would love any tips or advice if you had any! Is there any way we would converse about it?
@futuredoctorbri6 ай бұрын
I'm not sure if they have any specific requirements for stats but having a reason for having low stats helps. I believe admissions is mostly about having good experiences and a good story/why and needing to improve your stats to show you're prepared for medical school. GUSOM is also especially focussed on volunteer/service experiences. Hope that helps!

@@futuredoctorbri That helps a lot! How difficult has the program been? How does the grading system work? Would you say that obtaining a high GPA is doable? What type of hours are you putting in to get it done?
@futuredoctorbri6 ай бұрын
It is a difficult program, we are basically first year medical students and our final exams are the med school final exams. Grading is based on those exams and scoring close to the medical school average gets you a passing grade and then you have to be so many points above that to get an A, so it is hard but achievable to get a high GPA (also depending on what you see as a high GPA). And the recommendation from our program director is to study at least 5 hours per day outside of class time.
