Imagine being out on a boat in the middle of a lake and seeing a 104 buzz by 50 feet off the surface

Loved this. My dad had over 5,000 hours in the F104 and his name is on the side of the static displace F104 in Fighter Airpark at Luke. At the time of this filming, he was the Airspace Manager for Arizona, stationed at Luke. This video has extra meaning for me. Cheers.

Why is he flying so low? This plane was made for higher altitudes. The lake is pretty but if there’s any problems you don’t have time or space to deal with them.

Why the heck are you so low? That seems dangerous and possibly illegal. Something goes wrong and boom you have no altitude to recover. My dad flew those in the AF.

Imagine sitting in the back seat of this F-104 and all of a sudden the pilot decides to beat Chuck Yaeger's altitude record...
When I was stationed at Luke AFB in the early 70s there was a whole squadron of 104s owned by the German Luftwaffe. They were training pilots on the Gila Bend gunnery range, now called the Barry Goldwater Training Range. It was always a thrill to watch them and the F4s takeoff at full afterburner.

I remember that. I was there as a 462 on the F-4, and the "new" F-15 🔥🔥 '75/76.

A good example of making anything fly given enough thrust. As far as a craft meant to fly at its inception.

Called the Widow-maker by the Luftwaffe for its tendency to become a dart into the ground, they should have added The Deaf jet......that freaking thing is LOUD in the cockpit!!

Funny I just listened to the episode of The Fighter Pilot Podcast where they discussed the '104. I'm guessing you were staying under 250 knots given your altitude, nowhere near what that thing is capable of!
@tenpiloto2 жыл бұрын
Fighters are NOT restricted to 250 below 10--it is expected that they will fly no lower than min maneuvering speed, which may be over 250. Same with large airliners--clean maneuvering speed at heavy weights might be 275 or more, so on climb out they are allowed (inform ATC, who is expecting it) to exceed 250--much more efficient than keeping slats extended to maintain 250.

It's funny but back in the early 1990's while I was in Air Defense as a Stinger 16S we had to study this aircraft VACR (Visual Aircraft Recognition) even though this is a 1950's era aircraft. This is a great video!!!

Why is it anything American on youtube is the lowest quality video. We did have HD in 2008 and had it for awhile.

I never considered the 104 a plane, but rather a rocket with a seat added just so you could go along for the ride.

Excellent video... For us pilots would love to have had you focus in on the airspeed at various aspects of the flight but nonetheless very good!

Cool. I like the F104 but my favorite yet is the phantom. I love this fighter. I work with the phantom 21 years. It's the best 😁. Thank you für this amazing video. Viele Grüße von der Nordseeküste (Fuck Merkel Land Germany) Manu

Wow. Nice flight. The F104 was a gas guzzler by design, and at that relatively low altitude, it was sucking that gas. Nice

11 and a half minute video, of a star fighter, from nellis to Phoenix. I came here because I thought it was an unedited video, being Mach 2+ capable. Not the case but I’m not disappointed. What a beaut of a jet

I knew the Starfighter´s wings were tiny, but seeing those little "air cutters" from the cockpit is somewhat scary... "where's the rest of my wing????"

Flying pretty low the whole way. I'm guessing the J-79 rattled some windows in Vegas as they exited the area. Probably scared the bejeesus out of a few fishermen at those reservoirs!

I’m confused as to how you guys were flying less than a hundred feet above the ground, as the FAA limit is 500’ above rural areas, and 1000’ above congested areas (unless you’re in an emergency or T/O / LND). Unless you guys were in a MOA, however there were boats and cars and stuff... oh well. Great video
