This is completely normal behaviour. I agree with them being introduced in a neutral area, but this fighting is nothing to worry about. The 'enslavement' afterwards is grooming, which shows a strong and happy bond between the degus.
@lisaallan761610 жыл бұрын
And the ones that are going on about you should separate them, yous should do the research because you can't do that. The only time you have to get involved to break it up is when they are properly going at it. As soon as they are rolling with each other, that's the only time you should stop them. If you try and break it up with squabbles like this you'll make matters worse for them and you'll put them back to square one and they'll do it all over again. And when introducing a new degu you don't do it in the cage. If it's an adult and you put a baby in you don't have any worry because the adult will accept the baby straight off but all degus are different. You should put them in a bath tub make sure it's dry and introduce them that way, and clean out the cage also before putting the both of them in.

Corky2828 Degu's cannot be alone. They actually usually very redily accept another, especially when they have been alone for a bit. I can't speak for whether the introduction was done correctly because I'm just seeing a small video. But this was a small fight. Luckily degu's don't fight very often and are normally pretty welcoming to a new playmate. So yes, most rodents you'd never put them in the same cage like this...And yes maybe it's better to start with a fresh cage. That's not always possible though. And while they are fighting...I'm not hearing particularily threatning or agressive noises from either degu. I think they were probably just figuring out who was dominant on the other.
@lisaallan761610 жыл бұрын
They don't really make that much a noise when they fight. Until it gets serious.
@segoriskjohnny79167 жыл бұрын
Lisa Allan it's actually the opposite way around to what you claimed. Noisy fights are usually not serious and the quiet ones can lead to vicious bite/kicking in a tight ball. Which is when you should split the fight as this is when they do serious damage to eachother.
@aidsjah11 жыл бұрын
I get the dislikes, but this is natural for a degu. mine fight all the time aswell. The only time you should interact is if they atart to bite eachother. cause then they will kill.
@FLUFFYHEAD20210 жыл бұрын
They are just play fighting over who is the dominant one. When one of them backs down they stop, if neither backs down then they will proper fight
@lisaallan761610 жыл бұрын
FLUFFYHEAD202 It wasn't play fighting it wasn't a serious fight either. They were boxing and when you saw them tumbling down they would have rolled if they didn't fall and that would turn in a serious fight and nobody wants that because as soon as they latch on to each other it's even harder to get them separated. And you are right if none of them backs down they will fight proper.

I noticed ye using whit looks like cat litter pellets, its a no no, if they eat it, it can swell in their wee tummies and give them inpactation wich can kill them, and also ye should try introductions in a nutural place, no in a cage where one goo lives already, some say try vanilla eccsence in sand bath sometimes helps as it makes them both smell the same dunno if it works. but introductions should be taken very slowly incase of a risk of serious injuries

wanting to replace the greave with something just doesn't work like that. Animals don't think like that, of taking destraction for the greave. But now all is good^^
@JustElly11 жыл бұрын
aah sorry for you los. We put a wire cage in the glass cage (a closeth build into a cage) and at first with an extra wire bar so they couldn't reach then put that away left the cage with one female in there for about 20 days and when they started sleeping again the wires we let them meet outside to cage on neutral ground and it was family love at first sight :) the one we had longer just needed to deal with the greave that was it, we rushed her, we though like a human not like a degu
@dkaloupis7511 жыл бұрын
Mine also..but...for 5 seconds was enough to kill the other...i still cant believe it after a month...so we separate the 1 female older one(female killer) and the rest females(sisters) same age alone...and also the 3 boys alone....its a nightmare...3 cages....and big cages also...
@bathory31311 жыл бұрын
You obviously don't know much about degus, Keiran. This is normal behavior on introducing them. You do not interfere with the dominance establishment unless there is serious biting/fighting.
@JustElly11 жыл бұрын
true, we had a reall fight with a older getting son en father. That was way worse then this. This is sort of a disagreement :P

Don't worry about it with degus. They like to live in big groups (or at least pairs) and introducing new members is not a problem. They will fight for dominance at the beginning and then when they start to groom each other it shows that they trust each other. These guys look quite happy! There's a site called degutopia that is really useful, it's almost a degu bible. It tells you how to introduce new degus to one another and that they'll fight at first. I think goaroma did research.

You shouldn't ever introduce a new small animal into a cage that is already home to another. :\ I wish people would do their research.

It's not enslavement,it's only grooming,which is an important social behavior to them.After the fight,the hierarchy is set between the degus,it doesn't matter which one is on the top or bottom when grooming or sleeping.

When I got my first 8mm cam, my films were bad because each roll lasted only 3 minutes and so I would pan too fast. But I think I have met someone here who is just as bad so thanks for sharing the last place vote for best film making - and complainer tango ought to go to those vids that show violence. As to non-political vids like this, give it a rest, eh?
