imo there will be absolutely no mention of an AR/VR headset at today’s event, battery tech is just not there yet for Apple to jump into this space and rEvoLuTiOniZe it. it’d either have to be a waist-mounted battery and a cable which is literally the most un-Apple-y thing I can think of, or a built-in battery, which will just make it one of the many “meh” headsets already on the market. today’s li-ions are hot and heavy, there’s no way around this, but if it is indeed announced today, Apple’s gotta come up with some truly groundbreaking battery management solution for the headset not to be the biggest flop the world has ever seen. I have honestly never been more excited for a product before, if Apple nails this, it could push AR/VR waaay into the mainstream. then again I don’t think it will be announced, but boy am I hoping 🤞

I think you're right, the $3000 price point doesn't make sense for a platform play. The logic you are applying does make sense. When iPad came out the rumors spoke of a $1000 device and when it shipped it cost $499. By going for volume of early users it makes a more convincing argument for developers. They also can leak to the investor community that demand is way beyond what was projected originally. The final piece is that with higher volume they rapidly bring down the cost of exotic components like the displays. The other huge factor is when iPhone first shipped they didn't have the 80 billion dollar services division. Having excellent unique services for the headset will do more to drive adoption of this tech than anything else. Final point is accessories. It's easy to see this lends itself to headbands, secondary battery packs, accessories for carrying the battery over shoulder or belt loops. There are probably many more possibilities with regard to accessories. The beauty of both services and accessories is that the margins are substantially higher than hardware.

I believe apple will sell the headset at a loss at around $1500 and Meta is not the only company they need to watch they need to watch out for Sony which is currently number 2 in terms of headset sales and their PlayStation is leading video games right now so they have huge potential to sell at 25 million headsets in the next 4 years as the insane base for PlayStation is more than 38 million and with Sony’s IP’s is going be hard to beat if Sony starts releasing VR modes with all its games then it’s over and as a owner of both Sony headsets Sony’s and PlayStation VR2 is cable if 10,2 Teraflopswhich is impossible to achieve and then running 8k will take more power than what the headset can even produce think about that one it will be lots of AR apps and games which meta will dominate very easily and vr gaming Sony will dominate that sector

Interesting! They’ve already said the bill of materials are around $1500. I could definitely see them selling this to mostly developers at cost. My only issue is Apple coming out with a Cheaper version. I think it will remain 2k. The material will simply get cheaper over the course of a year and manufacturing cost will come down over time. At this point it will become profitable. I say all that because I don’t see Apple cheapening the experience. When people see what this device can do, that’s what they will want!

I have original vive headset and psvr1 from 1st gen. Back then..vive was way ahead. So i did the same in gen3. I purchased psvr2 and xr elite for my pc. This time psvr2 wins. Im not grading from seeing headsets at a limited journalist demo. I use both of these headsets daily. Its easy to say why, its not even close psvr2 has: 120 degree fov. Not like looking thru a toilet paper roll (xr elite fov is bad) Oled screens. Those blacks are incredible. (Xr elite is led and cant compete) Eye tracking. Works incredibly well. Xr elite does not have this. Head haptic rumble. Works way better than you think. Xr elite does not have this Better controllers with haptic feedback triggers. This is amazing and guns trigger are brilliant. Xr elite does not have this. Price. For 1000 of your dollars you can get both ps5 and headset. My xr elite in uk was £1300 and £4500 for a decent laptop. That equates to $7500. There is no comparison. My xr elite does have the best graphical power...but only when i have it linked to my 4090 gpu. In its wireless form, dont expect much more than mobile phone vr, because that snapdragon chip are just the ones in mobile phones now. I purchased xr elite for AR and VR and work aswell as games. Forget it, there is not even an AR or VR app for anything related to work. Not one. So i got sold a dream here.

This aged badly lol. The Quest Pro is a much better headset than the XR Elite. The vastly superior lenses, dual QLED displays, the quantum dot layer, local dimming (now globally activated on PCVR over wired and wireless link) better FOV, much better tracking and controllers, far better standalone software, better XR2 gen 1+ chip, full face and eye tracking, and you scored it the lowest? At its new price point its fantastic value for those wanting a high end standalone and PCVR experience. I have a 13900K, 4090 PC and bought the Pro and its so much better than my Vive Pro 2 and Reverb G2 that I just can't use crappy fresnel headsets any more. For those who have the money and the PC setup the Pro is clearly the best headset here, by some margin, with the PSVR2 a good value option.
