As a guitarist and someone who has studied his work for a very long time, he uses many unconventional / open tunings for many of the riffs he created. In terms of his tone, the first record was done all on a 70’s Musicman Sabre II which has a very distinctive tone that’s unmatched by many other guitars. During the Blue era and the later half of the self-titled tour, he began using MJ Guitar’s Engineering (Mark Johnson) MJ Mirage models many of which were custom made specifically for him. Another unique aspect of his playing is feedback and sustain which he would often get from a sustainiac pickup installed to some of the MJ guitars he used at the time. A great example of this is on the song Darkness where he uses that pickup to his advantage. I hope that helps. I think Kevin’s contributions are what helped Third Eye Blind become popular among the guitar playing community at least when it comes to the first 2 records. Tony Fredianelli was great at carrying the torch with the influence Kevin brought but after both of their departures the band took a different direction. I still think Kryz Reid is an exceptionally great player who has talent but their style has changed greatly and that has caused them to lose fans which is a shame.

@@BDKelso2000 Finding an in depth and insightful comment about KC of 3EB on a video with 3k views is what made me love the internet back when it was new and this band were relevant. The first album is almost perfect. Blue is amazing. Vein has a few killer tracks. I don't know what's sadder, 3EB without KC or the fact KC didn't create something as good as his 3EB work after 3EB.

Because he is a far superior musician than all the others. He is also an amazing song writer coming up with most of the early stuff whereas after is all the selfish douche SJ.
