What can I say mate - I’m in the same situation as you with regards to a Mrs who won’t be pillion. She tells me she’d get on a trike though so go figure? Not done it myself but a tour would probably be good if you can stick to the schedule. I’d go freestyle though personally. The road glide I had over there this year I just wanted to ride. Maybe one day I’ll do it again and leave the Mrs at home 😂

I know, it’s a real pain!! I test ride a trike last week and my god, what a weird experience when you first get on! Within the first 10 minutes I wanted to turn round and give it straight back to the dealer. I persevered and after 30 minutes or so I started to really enjoy it. I think if I do the trip with her I would go on a trike and then I can forget about road surfaces, slow speeds and worrying about dropping the bike. I’m happier on 2 wheels but needs must! 😂

Was on the back of Husbands 2005 Dyna Wide Glide 1450. Covered 14,000 miles, 28 states, just over 2 months. We only touched on Route 66. Just the two of us and used Motels most of the time. Went Florida Keys to Niagara Falls Canada side and then cut east to west across the Northern States. Then ran down through Oregon and California, before cutting across to Colorado and then finishing back in California. Absolutely stunning. Incredible places and roads. We only touched Route 66 at Williams, which we used as a base for visiting the Grand Canyon. Williams had a staged shoot out every night on the main street. Any questions feel free to ask.

I have a 2021 model from new. 32,000klms now and bulletproof never leaving me stranded. I put a Memphis Shades El Paso screen on and it’s like a mini Road King. I’ve done Stage 1 and Vance and Hines Big Radius. It’s a very competent touring steed. I’ve done 5-8 day tours between 2,000 - 3,000 klms and it’s more than capable and very comfortable. Doesn’t need any more power and with gentle touring I’m getting 4.6ltrs/100klms or around 380klm touring range. Try getting that consumption on a 114. I’m sure the USA discontinued the Sport Glide as its sales was eating into bagger sales and not delivering the margins the bean counters wanted. It’s a future collectible.

I’m the same height as you and always slide back under accel with the stock seat, so, does this one move you closer to the tank at all? I’m hoping it does, especially when I’m tearing along a nice back road, because with my shortarse legs I don’t have much control and always compensate by sitting on the rear of the tank. And thanks so much for the tip with the zip tie, ingenious, I’d never have thought of that (was gonna piddle around with string). PS. Where did you get that nice chrome center strip for the tank? Looks so much better than stock. Thanks from an ex.pat Brit in Putnam Valley NY.
@Midlife5
@Midlife5 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comments! I think you’ll find that it doesn’t change the seating position from stock but it is narrower and a bit lower so you can reach the ground easier. The back support is certainly better than the stock seat but if you are looking for something to lock you in then I would suggest the Saddlemen step up or explorer seats. These aren’t solo seats but provide amazing back support and really lock you in! Finally, the chrome tank strap is off the fat boy, you can order one and swap it out with the stock leather strap. Hope this helps!

I have one, here in the UK. I am italian, very popular there too. The sport glide is really good value for money here, but in the USA it was a lot more expensive. Harley has discontinued the softail slim too: more expensive than the sport glide and cheaper to build (no bags, smaller tyres, etc.). I think in the USA the sport glide was "stealing" sales from touring bikes. Honestly, there is no logic, manufacturers are weird....

I bought my SportGlide back in 2018 after totaling my 900 lb 2009 CVO after it slid on wet pavement while I was executing a U-Turn. I realized that a heavy bike was crap for city riding, and that it offered no protection for the rider as I broke nine ribs and collapsed my left lung after the full weight of the 900lb bike landed on me while I slide down the pavement. I ended up totaling the CVO because Harley Davidson estimated the repair was more then the Blue Book due to all of the specialty parts,and new frame they would need to locate; just because my frame was scratched (not bent) and they would have to locate the special paint colors that were unique to the 2009 CVO. I bought the SportGlide brand new with the insurance check, because it weighs just 700 lb decked out and close to 610 lb’s without the faring and saddlebags and with a 1/2 tank of gas. It is the perfect bike for older guys, girls and smaller guys. Much better than the smaller/lighter Sportster, that is only 1,200 CC’s and has no fuel gage; and shakes so bad going down the highway, that you can’t see anything in your side mirrors. The SportGlide is 107cu/in but has almost the same specs as the 114cu/in Milwaukee 8 engine after you upgrade to the stage one and two. I ordered the black MOETA saddle bag guards for only $135, so along with the engine guards, I am well protected if the bike slides. I also see that a lot of older guys bought the SportGlide during COVID, for something to do during the lockdown. I now see them selling on Facebook Marketplace in like new condition (with less,then 3,000 miles) for around $12,000 to $13,000. I saw one for sale that had less than 300 miles. I would recommend the SportGlide to anyone wanting a lighter bike for maneuverability in the city but still has all of the power and comfort of a touring bike.

I had one of these for a year. I didn't find it comfortable on long rides and got lower back pain. I tried a rider's backrest and that helped. Very annoying features were having to take the seat off to adjust the shock, and the design of the saddlebags. Whoever thought it was a good idea to put bloody great bracket in the middle of the opening, so that you cant just drop in a bag, needs to be given a good talking to. Like you I love the floorboards and I found the handling good enough that they were getting scraped a lot. Being a bit taller than you I had no problems with the screen. Ultimately, I bought the bike to tour on and it wasn't comfortable for me, so I sold it again.

Great video. Well explained all upgrades. My top mods are: 1- 6” pull back fat risers from Harley. I’m 5’7” and stock risers were just too low for me. Everything changed with these new risers and my handling on the bike has improved massively. 2- Le Pera Tailwhip seat. Wife approves, my back approved. Great seat. 3- 1fngr levers. They are absolutely fantastic. 4- 10” windshield. Stock windshield looks funny and doesn’t do anything at all to be honest. 5- Street Cannon muffler. They sound great. Not too loud definitely but bike doesn’t sound like it has asthma anymore. Bonus: Accessory mid-controls from Harley. These are true mid controls compared to other one that Harley has and little higher and closer to the rider. As a short dude, I love the sitting position.

Hello from France, I just discovered your vid and your channel, and... I fall in love with the Sport Glide, and I'm searching riders who could sincerely answer to my ask : I'm 52, I'm not tall (5"6), without a lot of muscle strength , I was full licenced 25 years ago, but I only ride for the first 5 years after graduated ( So, I left a lot of my road riding tiny experience due to this stoping period) Unfortunatly , I was victim of a massive heart attack, one year ago,... the worst and the best experience of my life, because over the death, I discover to be volunteer and determined....!! When I was in hospital, It was like if I was born for a second time, and .. I promise me to get full forces to ride again .. And so, your explain, your way of thinking help me a lot , because , you summarize very well all the thoughts I Get . I feel strong, and determined, but I'm not total confident in my ability to ride the good way... And I'm afraid of the weight and the overall size, of the Sport Glide and especially on slow maneuvering, and... But I' m thinking , that I get a lot of experience with torquey engine ( i'owned an old 911 , and ride BMW M6) So, as you see , I'm lost in all my thought ! But, you give me very good explain, and I want to thank you a lot for that, and maybe, Sport Glide will be my " almost first" bike, or.... not !!! ( And on the other side, a sportster roadster could be this First bike...) Well I guess I'll thinking about that, and hope, I'll find the "escape" soooonnnn have a nice evening, John Christopher

Thanks for your kind comments and I’m pleased you feel the video helped. I am also 5’6 and not strong as I have suffered with Crohn’s disease since a child. I also restarted riding in my late 40’s, starting on 650cc bikes but the Sport Glide is easier to ride than the normal naked street bikes. It is heavy but the weight is down low and it is easy to manoeuvre at slow speeds when you have got your confidence and built up the skills. Just don’t rush things, go at your own pace and you’ll be fine! Either way, whatever you choose it will be right for you! I’m glad you are now better and good luck with your riding experience 👍🏼

Hi from Australia, iv had one for about a year on my Indian scout bobber 20 mini apes. I think its great, top quality extremely well made. I found it buffets the wind over the helmet is much nicer ride than with out it. I use the big compartment to keep a bandana, hat and some snacks. Front zippered I use as a bit of a odds and ends like cable ties, tape, fuses, Allen key, super glue, mini knife. I keep looking at the RSD KRIEGA tool roll. I'm pretty sure il get it. And strap it at bottom of mini apes and have this awesome handle bar bag above it. I'm so happy with it I'm sure the tool roll will be a winner as well
