I'm kinda confused by why the Archnecrotect is so high. His regeneration bonus sounds nice but it only lasts until the end of your turn, so it has absolutely no effect when the opponent charges or shoots at you, which is when you want it
@AllOutWarAu8 күн бұрын
The Immortal Overseer is the key factor in this setup, with the Stone Shaper being a mere bonus. The Immortal Overseer provides the most effective way to grant an initiative boost in a TK army, especially since "My Will Be Done" only applies to infantry, chariots, or cavalries. Units like the Necrosphinx, Colossus, and Ushabti, which all strike at Initiative 1, benefit tremendously from the initiative bonus, allowing them to strike before enemies wielding great weapons. What's most important is that this bonus can't be negated, and it’s almost guaranteed, with a re-rollable Leadership 8 (assuming you have a BSB nearby, which you should). On top of that, it is stackable with my will be done, which give you a chance to get up to +6 initiative to a unit with a monarch. Overall, Tomb king is a very very slow army, It is a prominent weakness and arch necrotect helps to solve that problem.

The Great Bow Ushabti make people worry and effects their deployment.... they wont put elite units in LoS of this unit. They function like artillery. Skeleton Chariots and Tomb Swarms should be higher...chariots are just decent units. Casket of Souls should be lower....so unreliable and for it to do anything it relies on you opponent to roll badly on leadership..which on the units it should be targeting is unlikely and it cant move. If feel this list has been based on very specific lists.

I put together this tier list for a general Tomb Kings army. The rankings can shift quite a bit depending on army composition, which is why I created a separate tier list for other Infamy armies. For example, Ushabtis and Tomb Swarms are top-tier units in the Mortuary Cult list, but they don't perform as well in a standard TK setup. When a unit excels in an Infamy list, it really can't be ranked the same way in a standard list.

Hmmm, I'm not convinced that these remains in play spells are the best as the opposing player gets a chance to dispel them at the start of his turn - they effectively get 2 dispel attempts before they have to move their units; once when it's cast and again at the start of their turn, on an easier roll. If the number of dispel attempts were limited, then these remain in play spells would go up in value IMO.

Pretty sure the Nomadic Waaaaaaaaagh boar boys are just the best unit points can buy. Fast, 3+ armor save, relatively cheap, make em big uns, give em banner of butchery, and enjoy 2, strength 6 attacks per boy on the charge, plus the boars, impact hits, and choppas rule. Add in a boss to call a Waaaagh and play a wide unit and you should be able to chew through most things. Running a silly list that's almost entirely board boys, and its a lot of fun. Level 4 wizard with battle magic for a bit of utility as well

As an Empire player since 4th, I'd say the TOW book is the most difficult to win a game with the empire. Almost all units and characters are at least 20% overcosted for what they can achieve...some units even more. Statestroops, the so called "Backbone" of an combined arms empire list, are actually worse then bretonnian peasnst when takingcall special rules into account. They are also less versatile then bret peasantsxwith polearms and shield baked in their price of 5 pts/model. A comparable statestrooper is 7-8 points and will never get Horde, Shieldwall, or a weapon which can be used 2 ways...as for the knights, Brets have powerful vows..whatcdoes Empire knights have ? High cost and lower armour...😢..On to another iconic staple of the empire : the great cannon...got nerfed beyond recognition. Take bretonnian bombard for 25 points less..and the Bi-Handers ? Well, tbh, I cannot recall any edition in which they lived up to their lore in the game. But in TOW they are kind of worthless for their point costs...want better ones..look no further then, again, bretonnia's knights of the realm on foot...In a nutshell : if you want a challenge start TOW as a beginner with the weakest army ( next to skaven and dwarfes) ...the go ahead. Otherwise, I strongly suggest to have a look at the Bretonnian Exiles army...this is, for 90%, what the Empire should be...

Black Orcs are insanely good, if you mix them up right and manage to take out the right models in the right order. So you can always roll on 3+ armour, but still have lots of two-handed attacks. Good damage output, especially on the carge, very good armour saves, great morale, being able to make units go arounf impetious are all very good for the points. not chep, but tough and very good damage output. Only downside is that you have to take a black orc boss, but you normally do anyway and then you can make them core, that make them even better!

As a Woodelf I am going straight for the enemie wizard with my eagles or light cavalry to prevent him from countermagic. Then a wood will growth in front of the dragon and take his LoS. I will not fight a dragon, because it would be frustrating if he survives with 1 healthpoint. I prefer the damage race to get more points as the dragon will get. Units of 5 Dryads with a Nymph shine here to block a dragon for at least 2 rounds of combat
@teakeanema17228 ай бұрын
Stopped watching after the skeleton horsemen. You just look at their raw damage output. But not at the special rules. Heavy cav and horde means a static combat result of +2 add in a banner and only Spears on a unit of twelve (4 by 3) and for just 162 points you have a decent outnumbering, fear causing static combat result unit that can disrupt pretty well.

I like how it seems like he makes the point that combined arms tactics makes it an easier army to play somehow. Making use of your different unit's strengths is by far the hardest part of the game. But sure, charging in with only cav Bretonnians sure takes alot of brain power. Lol.
@AllOutWarAu8 ай бұрын
Armies that excel in combined arms tactics typically have a wide array of unit choices, giving them the adaptability to face varied opponents. Bretonnia relies heavily on cavalry charging, which leave Bretonnia vulnerable when confronted by armies that are good at countering cavalry. Bretonnia is a one-trick pony army, there isn't much room for army composition adjustment. In contrast, armies with diversified unit compositions can adjust their strategies to suit different opponent strengths.

Hi, Im kinda disagree with dwarf Army. If you speak about collecting the army and minis available, yes 💯👍. Now in term of strategy and gameplay I think it's actually one army that need experience and not for beginners. I'll try to develop shortly, trying to be constructive. First and foremost, if you consider that old World is a game of movement, deployment and anticipating turns (and you should 😊) dwarves doesn't allow any errors as redeployment is impossible. Also make you an army that make you reactive/passive having to endure the game Meaning with a mistaken deployment or poor table reading, an enemy can easily ignore one part of your army or destroy an isolated unit poorly deployed. Dwarves are expensive units not allowing to loose resources without fair trade. -Secondly, if you considers rules (which you should not to choose your favorite army to play 😊), dwarves doesn't have cavalry that use to dictate who engages a fight and where. ( Charging in this game is big advantage with rules like first charge and the many bonus on initiative, spears str) -No big monsters that are so strong in this edition. There is others who ll say artillery is the answer, yes but we r not in 8th, artillery is nerf ( and balance imho comparing silly canon V8) Magic is also a strong asset, but dwarves have good way to resist. So ok on that. Just few ideas, many more could be said, don't think I'm saying dwarves are bad, they are quiet good and have some really good units like rangers, gyro , hammerers, but saying it's a beginner army. I doubt it. Ofc to conclude, I agree to disagree 😎

I would argue dwarfs are unforgiving this edition due to the prevalence of cav, monsters, magic, and shooting being toned down. I think new players will quickly get frustrated by lack of maneuverability, ineffectual shooting, and being completely outclassed in the magic phase. If the new player wants to be competitive in tournaments dwarfs are not the answer.

@seasick88288 ай бұрын
Well, easy to collect due to AoS range, easy to paint, also easy to paint a full army due to low model count, but not as easy to play as one might think. The big perk for Ogres is not the high wound count (can melt away quickly due to having almost no armour) or having a large number of Attacks (which won't hit jack due to WS3), it's the high movement value, and very important, making use of the ogre charge. If you lose the inpact hits due to being charged or any magic shenanigans, have fun trying to get any hits into enemy elite units with your WS3 and low AP values. Let me tell you, it is not fun. Not even a little 😂
@warp_machine91418 ай бұрын
As an ogre player since 6th edition, i agree that they're simple, but not necessarily easy. Sure, ogres are powerful in melee when charging, but ultimately they're very vulnerable with weak armor , low weapon skill and low initiative. You really need to master the movement phase and choosing your fights if you want to be successful with them and that's something that most beginners will struggle with. You don't have much room for mistakes

@piotrskodowski75449 ай бұрын
Poison do not work on mounted dragons really. Most poison stuff has no or low AP and those characters typically have AS of 2+ and ward and regen typically. That means warmachines are not that effective either as they need to wound on 3+ and that dragon has 2 or 3 5+ saves. As fpr tying them with challenges. Sadly it is 1 off and dragon with flight and good M can easily avoid it. As for monster Slayer and counter dragon. Sadly it is noit an option for some armies that lack both. Personally I play O&G and I do not have anything resembling good Monster Slayer combo or item and Wyvern is very much weaker dragon that typically cannot compete with full fleged dragons while still being suceptible to their weaknesses.
@AllOutWarAu9 ай бұрын
The idea is not to kill the dragon but to drop its wounds so it becomes more manageable in combat. Some dragons with triple saves are obviously very difficult to deal with. So you might have to add in spell like plague of rust. There is no perfect solution to deal with an unkillable dragon, which is why it causes so much problem in the game atm.

You rate greatbow ushabti pretty low, and fair enough as the total damage output goes way down, but great blade ushabti are very slow in combat and really not that tough, with only T4, 3w, heavy armor, and 6+ regen, it feels like most targets that you'd need that kind of output against are going to go first and drop a couple ushabti before they swing. Greatbow ushabti attack at a pretty incredible range, considering they have no penalties for moving or long range, and are fairly threatening to enemy war machines, which otherwise threaten your monsters. I find a couple units of 3 bowshabti are solid support for monster spamming TK lists for this reason, particularly in Mortuary Cult where you can take one of those units as core (plus a necrosphinx in special). All that said, I don't exactly dispute your overall tier 4 rating for ushabti in general. imo they're kind of boarderline between T4 and T3. I just don't think the greatbows rate any lower than the blades. They're just different tools. In contrast, I think you're maybe overestimating the regular archers a bit. 5+ to hit, S3, no ap, one damage... even if you invest a hero in them to get poison a reasonably sized unit of 20 is still only going to get 2-3 poisoned hits plus another 2-3 hits that need to roll to wound. Sure in theory you could take them larger then that, but as you increase the width the unit gets super unweildy pretty fast, and if you just increase the depth then you're paying double per shot for volley fire - and that's if you're able to volley fire in the first place - sometimes you just need to move. Heck, a big part of the bonus of arrows of asaph is that you ignore the penalty for doing so, relying on volley fire just puts that penalty back. I don't think regular tomb kings archers (or especially the skirmishers) are ~bad~ mind. Just not top tier. Maybe tier 3.
@AllOutWarAu9 ай бұрын
In the game, a 5-point model with a consistent 5+ hit rate and a 6+ regen save stands out as exceptional value. The essence of the game lies in optimising value exchange, where leveraging fewer points for greater impact is key to success. The ranking of units into tiers isn't solely based on their intrinsic quality. Rather, it's a reflection of the value they offer relative to their points cost. For example, the Greatbow Ushabtis, whose effectiveness is undeniable if not for their steep price of 49 points each. When writing army lists, I often face tough decisions, such as choosing between Necropolis Knights and Ushabti units. This decision-making process revolves around assessing which unit provides greater versatility and utility throughout the game, ultimately influencing my placement within tier rankings.

Phantasmagoria: what happens if I'm in range of the effect but I don't move?
@AllOutWarAu9 ай бұрын
I believe the unit is still affected by the spell because it ends its movement within the range of effect. However, if you start your movement inside the bubble of effect and move out of it, then it is ok.
@Dre0oq9 ай бұрын
This is a hard to say rules wise. Kind of another gray area. For my reading, if you don't move you don't finish a move so you can avoid the spell by deciding not to move. Not moving feels like sufficient opportunity cost to avoid being affected by the spell considering the game revolves around movement and positioning. That said because the rules don't outline a "remains stationary" action, if someone were feeling particularly pedantic they could argue that all units are moved during remaining moves, and that they simply move 0" and therefore still count as "finishing a move". This falls apart pretty quickly when applied elsewhere though, for example all Missile units would always be at -1 for moving.
@Dre0oq9 ай бұрын
@louisraphael1727 Can you provide an example? I get your meaning but it seems a strange reading to say you can end a move without having done so. Although I run into a lot of rules issues with American vs British English.

Trolls got a serious bump upwards with the new arcane journal. Re-rolling those regen saves and stupidity tests. Great weapons always beat an additional hand weapon if you're fighting anything with armor. A simple example - some knights (3+ armor) charge your 4 troll line, likely drop one of them, the remaining 3 attack: With great weapons they kill 2-3 With hand weapons they kill 1

It really depends on the type of infantry unit. A combat dragon can tear through a unit pretty fast, especially with its Thunderstomp attacks. If your unit falls back in good order, the dragon can move away. Unfortunately, it's not like the 8th edition of Warhammer Fantasy. Tying up a dragon with zombies doesn't really work anymore :(
