Fighting stance Boast, begin! Here we are, fearless Hawai‘i warriors Drenched in the red Tuahine rain Upright cliff of Pu'u Ohi'a Thrust the appendage In the time of change, hot was the earth In the time of change, turned inside-out, the heavens An eruption occurred, gushed forth the molten lava of battle Stand as Ku, spirit of manhood. Stand, stand! Oh Ku, spirit of the vastly powerful. Oh Ku, oh Ku! Oh Ku, spirit of victory. Oh Ku, oh Ku! Oh Ku, spirit of ferocity in battle. Oh Ku, oh Ku! Stand to the courage of all Hawai‘i.

Finally, I live to see the U of HAWAI'I represent HAWAI'I Warriors. So many generic Haka, but You came around to your senses to see you are in Hawai'i, not Tonga, not Fiji, not New Zealand, you are not Maori, as an alumni and Hawai"ian, now I'm proud of you.

No, this is Hawaii, not New Zealand. This is called the Ha'a. The Maori did not invent this. The Haka simply became the most popular/known form because white New Zealanders are constantly performing and appropriating the Haka at sporting events.

Haka carries the wrong impression of hostility towards other teams which Is antithetical to good sportsmanship and so called aloha. Cut it out and play ball. No need for local hype.
@aaronkamakaze2967 Жыл бұрын
This is the Ha'a not the "haka".... the ha'a is a dance native to Hawaii. And the dance is not to. "Intimidate"... it's to draw strength from one's ancestors for protection. Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean it's unsportsmanlike. Just means you're ignorant.

It’s sad that the Hawaiians biggest criticism come from our own blood, the Maoris. The Maori haka is popularly compared to the Hawaiian ha’a. Historically, we both come from the same wa’a (canoe). Just dropped off in different places. Our dna is the same. Hawaii being a part of America gets more recognition. Because of that we acknowledge and practice ALL Polynesian cultures in hopes for the same recognition. But when Hawaiians or anything of Hawaii tries to appropriately do so, we get put down..
@up.northbro Жыл бұрын
Help me understand why hawaiians would do haka instead of their own ha'a. The ha'a is amazing u can feel the wairua in it so why practice haka bro? No hate here brother and yes im maori

Growing up as a local Japanese person in Hawaii, we still respect the culture, so I too am proud to see my alma mater decide to scrap the Haka for an original Ha'a. When I see people on the mainland doing the Haka, it irritates me. When UH used to do the Haka, I felt a bit embarrassed for UH. It was as if the All-blacks decided to do the Sipi Tau or the Siva Tau at the beginning of their games.
