i am still new but i think one of the best things you can do first is do upgrades related to research including cost and speed abit of the upgrades to improve sell rate and amount gained from selling all from basic research and finally once advanced research is unlocked dump into the item find research that way you dont need as much item find on your characters and can have stronger characters and still get good loot, its what i am doing its working decently. No idea how to best build your characters for combat thought, i just make everyone capable of healing and go from their.
