I've tried it a few times since launch but the deck just isn't powerful enough. I hope once the new Intel Core Ultra 200 enter handhelds with the MSI claw 2, that maybe switch emulation is possible. I don't need 4k60, just a stable 30 would be fine.

Don't use yuzu, it's discontinued, thus it will have no further optimization. Suyu or Ryujinx will be better, cuz those emulators are receiving updates, thus TotK might run better on them

Honestly I've had a harder time using ryujinx for totk with everything I have, it just crashes whereas on yuzu it'll work no problem at locked 30fps with some drops (am steam deck as well) Also ive been playing over 100 hours on yuzu no problem so I don't see why anyone should switch just yet untill it's confirmed ryu, or suyu / any of the others finally get a major performance boost

Oh my god a console from 2017 and the chip inside is from 2015... Still this is worse than 9 year old chip. Emulators aint optimized well yet. if you want to play switch exclusive games just buy a switch its way more cheap and if you want to play games on steam just buy a laptop even tho its not portable as steamdeck its way better and charge drains way too fast with steam deck. We are not ready for compact devices this small. Steam deck is shit

Emulators are much more complex than you're making them sound. The Steam Deck isn't just going to naturally run a Nintendo Switch emulator better than a Switch does because it's newer and more powerful. Emulators can be extremely demanding even for older consoles, which is proven in how demanding original Xbox emulation is on PC's, where most modern, powerful PC's struggle. The fact the Steam Deck can run Nintendo Switch emulation as well as it does is amazing, but obviously needs a lot of work. And besides, OP is running Yuzu emulator, an emulator that was discontinued development in March. Ryujinx emulator on the other hand is still being actively developed, but I do not know how much effort they are putting into the deck specifically, and I personally don't think that optimizing Switch emulation on the Deck should be a priority for a while with the other work that needs to be done. If you can only have one system and only want to play Switch exclusives, than I agree that you should stick with a real Nintendo Switch, but Nintendo Switch emulation when set up correctly is capable of being a very good, better than real hardware experience. This video isn't a good example either, as you can see someone is running the game far better on the Steam Deck 6 months ago in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/npTXoaynrp6UmKs (they are also using Yuzu). Outside of the initial setup making the Deck less convenient than the Switch, the Steam Deck is easily capable of giving you a better experience than the Switch, with far more comfortable controls than the joycons, and an 800p screen. Battery life is certainly an issue at this point in time though, yes.

That is why I did not buy Steamdeck. At home I can play totk at 8K resolution, 60 FPS and it looks almost unrecognizable. I'll wait until a handheld can play on par with those settings (even if a new smartphone or tablet is the answer)

I just leave it on recommended setting and have it running off an external SSD. I'm hard wired too
