I just had an encounter less than a week ago in eau claire Wisconsin. It was in someones backyard. I was not expecting to see a cougar and honestly i panicked. I ran from it, worst thing to do. Im guessing she had her fill of rabbits, theres tons here. She fortunately didnt chase me. But i put on her twice 3000 lumens because the first time i was sure i was crazy. It stood up looking at me the second time. Just prior to seeing the lion I saw a guy walking a dog at 230 am but a block away. I'm super lucky my shitty fear response didn't get me killed. When I got home, not 5 minutes later the dog in the unit beside me went nuts, never saw it but have to believe it followed me home cause that dog never barks at night. Didn't bark even when I came home.

I walk the woods alone at night at my cabin (near gold river, BC) looking for firewood often. Lots of people tell me to stop as I am only 13 but I feel comfortable in doing it. Most of the time I have an axe on me for situations like this but sometimes I bring a .22 or a 12 gauge if there have been recent sightings. My family have taught me everything I need to know about what would happen when I get stalked by a cougar ( I have before!), my encounter was similar to this one haha. Luckily I don’t think it was interested in me.
