Going through all that right now.What does it tell you when social security gets ahold of Discover card in a week?But I can't get my widow's benefit appointment 4 3 months They say the government and the big corporations aren't working hand in hand I did not have anything except five months rent paid in advance I cannot imagine what young women who lose their husband's go thru waiting for survivors benefits to support their families we should I'll be grateful for the long years that we had with our husbands and start to devote some of our time to helping people like us who aren't as fortunate

I hoped you liked our tipping culture too … none obligatory and 10% is enough it you feel obliged to make a contribution … and in the pub there is no need to tip for every drink you order at the bar … Nobody gets upset if you don’t leave a tip as they are getting paid for doing their job.
@DebbieMorton111

Many places in the US, an 18% tip is automatically added to the bill and they don’t mention it hoping we will add another 15-20% 🤦🏻‍♀️ I appreciate being able to tip according to the quality and friendliness of service. 🙏🏼

@@DebbieMorton111 my wife’s sister lives in New Jersey and we have been visiting for the last 30 years or so and have seen the tipping percentages soar to an obligatory norm of 20% we have even been asked via the sales receipt it we would contribute to the servers healthcare insurance policy ! Also the tipping culture has expanded into other areas not just the hospitality sector … it seems that everyone working in America has the right to demand a tip for their services … you even get asked to tip for self service at the airport cafe/bar !

@@flyingfox7854 I agree it’s gotten out of hand to the level of being obnoxious here in America. The quality of service has declined while the expectation of a huge tip has gone through the roof.

PS. The facility in the Shard is NOT a bathroom. It's a toilet, or a loo. We don't have public bathrooms in the UK - the last ones closed in the late 1950s/early 1960s, I should think - we have public _toilets._
@mickylee82
@mickylee82 2 ай бұрын
I've never understood why they call a WC a bathroom, there is not bath or shower. Abit like calling a bakery a sweet shop, totally misleading and wrong
@Sine-gl9ly
@Sine-gl9ly Ай бұрын
@@mickylee82 That's a good analogy - a bakery selling cakes might have a slight association with sweet shops, in that lots of sugar is being used to make things you can eat, but that's about as far as it goes. The sugary things they sell are very, VERY different. In bathrooms, there's lots of running water and hard impervious floors and walls - just the same as toilets, but _that's_ about as far as it goes, too. The things you can do with or in that water in that place are very, very different!
@DebbieMorton111
@DebbieMorton111 Ай бұрын
I appreciate the insight into the proper terminology. It's always fun learning the differences between US and UK English. I'll make sure to use 'toilet' or 'loo' in the future when referring to facilities in the UK but in the US it’ll still a bathroom or restroom (although that’s not where we actually go to rest) 😊
@johnclements6614
@johnclements6614 Ай бұрын
@@DebbieMorton111 Most people will know what you mean, there are plenty of US programs on TV and films. But there is always a risk that someone will send you to a room with just a bath if they do not realise what you mean because it is not on TV.

You should've gone to any pharmacy, and asked to speak to the pharmacist for advice about your allergy/runny nose/whatever it was. If you're not 'ill', but have an annoying 'issue', pharmacists in the UK (and in most of Europe) can offer a LOT of help. They do continual training and are a 'one stop shop' for advice and practical help for all sorts of health matters (apt to be different things in different countries) - and will have no hesitation in directing you to further help if needed. You wouldn't be eligible for some of their services such as free vaccines here in the UK, but they would certainly be happy to offer advice, and sell you a suitable medication if appropriate - which will cost you MUCH less than in the US. Wisley gardens (WIZZLEE) are the hq of the Royal Horticultural Society. If you like gardens, you could become a member before your next visit to the UK, and plan your trip around the RHS gardens and its partner gardens. I'm a member and I LOVE going to the various gardens all over the country. The RHS gardens are free to enter if you're a member, and you also get free or reduced entry at many other notable gardens. RHS gardens are all in England - Wisley (Surrey), Hyde Hall (Esssx), Rosemoor (Devon), Bridgewater (Manchester) and Harlow Carr (Harrogate North Yorkshire). They all have good cafes, too! Their partner gardens are all over the UK, and entry is free or at reduced rates for RHS members. I hope you come again, and visit the REAL England (as well as, if possible, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), not just the tourist traps (although I do give you a lot of credit for following the advice given to you in Bath about visiting Avebury!). Perhaps decide what you most want to see and do - castles, stately homes, prehistory, theatre, gardens, inland waterways, etc etc - and plan your next visit around one or two of those themes. There are all sorts of memberships which are well worth the cost for visiting places, once you've used the membership a few times, it's paid for itself. Look at National Trust, English Heritage, Historic England, Royal Horticultural Society, and others. Most municipal museums and art galleries are free - but special exhibitions are charged for. You can usually get information about local places of interest from libraries, if you're not in a place with a Visitor Information Centre. FWIW, I've always travelled alone, even when my partner was alive. I started at 18, when I hitchhiked round Europe in the 1960s. I've lived and worked in more than a dozen countries on four continents, and travelled widely in many more. I'm now approaching 80 and still travelling, although not as nimble as I once was of course! I gave up driving a few years ago but that doesn't hinder me much, if at all, in Europe and Asia. Travel light is the best advice. You can always buy stuff if you didn't pack it, but later need it. I have some travel-size packs of local-brand toiletries bought in various far-away places, and I keep them out on my bathroom shelves as souvenirs which are (or were) functional! I sniff one, and it reminds me of Thailand, another takes me back to New Caledonia - and my toothpaste is Greek!
