Very useful! 😊 I have a question, I exported my models in glb format, one of those models are letters, is there a way to separe them in after? Or do I have to export the letters one by one? 🤣😅

is it possible to make this effect on a picture or a video? ( something like an overlay that gives this distortion effect)
@MasdLab
@MasdLab 3 күн бұрын
Yes, absolutely! You can apply this displacement effect to a picture or a video in much the same way we did with the text in this tutorial. Just replace the text layer with your picture or video layer, and use the same displacement map setup. To create an overlay effect, ensure that your displacement map layer is affecting the underlying picture or video through an Adjustment Layer. This allows you to create that glitchy, distorted look across your visual without modifying the original footage directly. For a more intense effect, you can experiment with different displacement maps or combine multiple effects, such as adding "Turbulent Displace" for extra movement.

Hello. After I export from Blender to GLB and import it into After Effects, the materials get removed and the objects turn completely white. I'm using the latest version of After Effects. Do you usually change any settings when exporting to GLB from Blender?
@MasdLab
@MasdLab 4 күн бұрын
Hey! I've bumped into that issue before. When exporting to GLB from Blender, sometimes the materials don't show up correctly in After Effects. Here's what I usually do: Stick to Principled BSDF Shaders: Make sure all your materials use the Principled BSDF shader. Other shaders might not export properly. UV Unwrap Everything: Double-check that all your objects are UV unwrapped. Without proper UVs, textures can go missing. Embed Textures: In the GLB export settings, be sure to include your textures so they're embedded in the file. That way, After Effects won't lose track of them. Tweak Export Settings: I always check 'Apply Modifiers' and 'Export Materials' when exporting. Sometimes I also triangulate the meshes under geometry settings to prevent any shading issues. After bringing it into After Effects, you might need to relink or adjust textures manually, especially if you're using plugins like Element 3D. Hope this helps!

@@MasdLab Thank you! I had been struggling with this for a few days, but thanks to you, I was able to import colored objects into After Effects. It seems that applying any shader other than the Principled BSDF results in a completely white appearance, but I’ll do some more research on my own as well. Thank you!

@MasdLab
@MasdLab 4 күн бұрын
Great question! Unfortunately, the Radio Waves effect only supports a single image or letter per layer, so it won't work directly with two letters at once. To achieve this, you'll need to duplicate your layer and use the Contour setting to specify which letter each layer should emit. This way, you can have multiple letters repeating by setting up separate wave emitters for each one. Thanks for trying it out, and I'm glad you liked the effect!

@MasdLab 4 күн бұрын
Hey, I get where you're coming from-sorry about that! To import the font after downloading: Download the Font File (.ttf or .otf). Install the Font: On Windows: Right-click and choose "Install." On Mac: Double-click and hit "Install Font." Restart Illustrator, and it should appear in your font list. Thanks for pointing this out, and I’ll make sure to include these steps more clearly next time!

C4D is the industry standard. I feel it’s much easier to use, and most Design studios work with it. I would say, learn c4d, if you aim to work on a studio environment, but if you feel like going freelance and working solo, Blender is a great tool!

Thank you so much! I was just wondering if there's any method to export JSON files from After Effects without using any plugins?
@MasdLab
@MasdLab 4 күн бұрын
You're very welcome! 😊 Unfortunately, exporting JSON files from After Effects without any plugins is quite limited. The most common way is to use a plugin like Bodymovin, which is specifically designed for exporting animations as JSON. Without plugins, a workaround could be to export data manually through scripting using the JavaScript Expressions Engine in After Effects. You'd need to write a custom script that extracts data (like keyframes or properties) and then manually format it into JSON. It's not as straightforward as using Bodymovin, but it’s possible if you’re comfortable with scripting. Let me know if you have more questions or need help with a specific part of the process!

so you have to duplicte the index layer with the expressions and organize them 3x3 ?
@MasdLab
@MasdLab 4 күн бұрын
Exactly! You need to duplicate the layer with the expression, and the layer index is what makes each duplicate blink at slightly different rates. To arrange them in a 3x3 grid, just position your layers accordingly in the Composition panel. The expression will automatically adjust based on the layer index, creating that staggered blinking effect. Let me know if you need more details!

I guess you didn't write the expression yourself? Because there is a redundant variable not being used, and you seem unaware of it💀. If that's the case, I would suggest you give credit to the original author. And if you know the 'thisLayer.width', you should know this can be easily done with two keyframes, which is much easier to adjust the animation speed or andything else, in my opinion.

How does one become better at expressions? Is it trial and error or some secret wizardry only a few know 😂
@MasdLab

Haa trial and error, testing, getting code online. But initially is, you have a problem, you do it with keyframes, then you think, is there a better way? Then you look on how to make an expression for you problem, so you never need to make those key frames again hehe
