It's funny how nobody really talked about it, but Rita, sue and Bob too is basically about an older man preying on underage girls. I don't think anyone could make a film like this now. Our attitudes to child protection have changed massively since the 80s. It's interesting in the film too how some of the characters blame the girls for it.

It all began in Catterick, where a choir for military wives and girlfriends had been set up in 2010 by Nicky Clarke and Caroline Jopp. Nicky had written to Gareth Malone about the benefits that a choir could bring to military wives during a deployment to Afghanistan.

I collected a car from a military wife a couple of months back. I was struck by how confident, outgoing, proactive, fore-thinking and generally incredibly positive person she was.

Thanks to the power of money that’s easier said than done, sir. At this rate by 2050 there will be 10-15,000 remaining in protected forest and reserves. And a few thousand as rich peoples’ toys. This is what humans do…and corona is a virus, huh?

Unfortunately Gareth, the screen-writers of "Military Wives" decided you were irrelevant.....and their movie "based on real events" isn't.
@chucks67812 жыл бұрын
What more can you expect from American producers they cant think for themselves so steal other peoples idea & convey the image that its theirs & American actresses to add insult The movie hasn"t got me interested even as a freebie on KZbin

The screen-writers of "Military Wives" should be shot - what about Gareth Malone?? Forgotten composer and "author" of starting the choir......

It's wonderful that these women did this for their men but in the movie it's a shame that they turned Gareth Malone into a woman...a man started the choir, he should get the credit for what he did.
@Caitacious4 жыл бұрын
Malone started the choir at Chivenor in the tv series after being inspired by the existing Catterick Military Wives Choir. So really, the women who started that first military wives choir should get the recognition. The movie was inspired by the stories of military wives and girlfriends and servicewoman as well as The Choir docu-series. I think the movie, rightly, focused on the women's stories in honour of those women.

Caitacious But it was a man that composed the song using the letters. I suppose that’s dramatic license for you.

What an absolute joy to watch these women become part of a choir, a team and create friendships for life. All down to Gareth who should go down in history as a motivator , an inspiration and a giant in the music world. Have followed your musical career from the beginning and am now in a choir in Australia.
