GREAT video! THANKS! I am a retired IT manager. If I was still working I'd hire Connor in a New York second! He has the kind of mind that thrives in IT .. an exceptionally intelligent mind that is hyper-inquisitive. Nice presentation Connor and all the best to you in your future endeavours!

I worked for a bank in the UK and they had a colour system related to A to F Orange Apple Blue Boy Red Sea(C) Yellow Dog Brown E Grren Fly It sort of rhymes and flows purely to remember what colour related to which letter. The colours related to the daily backups. The letters when placed in columns 72 to 80 of a jobcard, meant that line of jcl was included or excluded depending on the letters used when the job was "called " into the system. The letters A to F were used on 6 consecutive working days and then repeated. Tapes and disks with the appropriate colour were cycled through these 6 days and then reused. Thus establishing 6 days of backups, in case of any issues. Additional cours and letters were used weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc. PS i was also told in 1985 that the mainframe would be gone in 3 or 4 years, as it was old technology 😂

Computer science and engineering were real jobs back then. You had to know what you were doing. Today we have tools that are too powerful and have allowed weak and incompetent people into the industry. It's a big tower of babel now because very few people understand the architecture or systems. They don't know how the machine works or how life itself works. As a student the university had some hp1000 systems operational for their CAD and photoplotter. Everyone had moved onto PCs by then but the workshop staff could still maintain the machines. I was the only student who used the mainframe because I appreciated how it worked and I got free reign over the old computer room. The staff loved having something interesting to do away from fixing stuff broken by undergraduates. The photoplotter made a hell of a noise too. I was always taken aback by how mechanically complex much of the equipment was. That's a real delight to an engineer. I suppose today we have the same regard for steam trains!

The film is fictional. Frank makes up stories about his life. Don’t believe a word he says.
